OK I feel so bad and kind of like a spoiled bratt saying this but.....

One year I bought my FH granparents a cute snowman decoration and they gave it to my FSIL who lives with them the next year. I went to her house and saw it and I said awww thats cute did grandma give that to u? She goes ya why? I said Cause I gave it to her last year. And she does this all the time (regifts) she once gave towels back to the same person who gave them to her. So every year I get a pocketbook. Not just any pocketbook but one of her pocketbooks. THAT HAS BEEN USED! This year I got......YUP u guessed it... A POCKETBOOK! It is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. Its Like one of those 1980's Quilted three tone pocketbook. Its gold and two shades of bronze. My FH and FSIL fell on the floor Laughing. My FH says ya but its the thought that counts but thats ust the thing its no thought. I opened it up and the liner is all ripped up and the outside is all scratched up. Its definetly been used. A LOT. It makes me feel like crap. Id rather not get anything at all. FSIL agrees with me. FSIL also says that shes seen grandma use this before. Ill have to take a picture of it and post it.


ETA. It looks like something off of the Golden Girls. They have plenty of money. Its ok to regift as long as the people don't know each other and if it isnt used. Like u get 2 toasters for ure shower regift it. But u wouldnt regift if it has bread crumbs from the toast u made in it last sunday.

Aww that is kind of cute in an old person sort of way.

Does she not have the money to buy everyone presents.

Maybe she feels like giving her things away is like passing them down for other people to enjoy as much as she did.

See I totally see ure point behind everything u said. THEY HAVE MONEY!!!!!!! And I really dont think she thinks like that. I think she doesnt like me. And she forgets to buy me something.

Every year my Grandmother gets pissed at me for something. There is not way to please them all the time

Re-gifting is forgiveable, but to give somebody an obviously used gift? I can see why it would make you feel bad.

Seriously though, is she old and forgetful? The nurse in me makes me question her mental status. Is she 'all there'? Old people can get wacky ya know!

I totally think you are correct. A regift of some used up thing that she was probably going to trash anyway is not a good gift!! Its a thoughtless one - and it implies that you are somehow too dumb to figure it out.

Not much you can do about it but grin and bare it but it stinks.

I think that your FH should say something to his grandmother. The purse has obviously been used and he should stick up for you. He should say that he saw it and that if she didn't have the money or want to give you anything she shouln't have given you somthing that she clearly used.

He should also say that you hurt by the fact that she would give something used.

yes! I wonder if she will ever regift those type of gifts to you if you do it to her (sounds mean because she is an elderly woman - but from what you say it may be appropriate)
