VENT!!!! HOTEL I BOOKED FOR MY GUESTS
1. I was talking to a friend who is coming to the wedding she said her father tried to make a reservation in October she said that the guy that answered the phone said they arent making any reservations until Jan 1 - I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT!!2. Someone else called to make a reservation recently and they had NO IDEA that I had reserved rooms there - When I went to see the rooms I saw my sheet of paper with my info on it
3. They wont take CC deposits over the phone - my guest had to mail a check - I WAS NEVER TOLD
4. Before I sent out the STD's (September) I got the pricing from them... I WAS NEVER TOLD that there was a 2 night min... $300 for 2 nights is a lot to ask of my guests
What do I do????

yikes.call around, see if you can find a backup.
THEN attempt to negotiate with the hotel. threaten to take your business elsewhere if something can't be worked out. before you do this, check your contract because there most likely is a fee for breaking the contract if they are not able to rebook the rooms.
my hotel has a minimum for the first night only. requiring a 2 night stay for the amount mentioned would make me a little nervous as well...

Re: VENT!!!! HOTEL I BOOKED FOR MY GUESTS
There's a soccer tournament going on near my date, so one hotel wouldn't even offer me a rate and the other two required a two night minimum. This might be what's going on with you as well, since we're around the same date. They should have told you all of this though.

Re: VENT!!!! HOTEL I BOOKED FOR MY GUESTS
Oh Karen,I'm sooo sorry! I feel your pain! We looked at the same hotel (for other LIW girls, its an east end place on the north fork - hotels on the beach, a very nice place). They actually gave us most of the details you described last summer, and we were kinda bummed - we also had the added twist of having to worry if any early US Open golf vendors would want rooms the same time as us -then we would be SOL if we wanted rooms there.
And the guy wanted us to put down a deposit on rooms we were blocking (a couple of weeks ago), so we didn't block any. I figured the interest level would be low, since it would be an extra $300 to fork out for a weekend..
I think the local B&B's also have similar policies unfortunately. the Riverhead BW is looking better & better lol.

Pickle I spoke to Pat. Not a guy. I NEVER got the info you did!!I was SHOCKED at the level of professionalism! I didnt have to leave a deposit for any of my rooms but they did say they are on a first come first serve basis.

The Riverhead Best Western IS really nice! I went there to check it out. They showed me a room and gave me a tour. I blocked rooms there.

Re: VENT!!!! HOTEL I BOOKED FOR MY GUESTS
I just had a problem with a hotel on the south shore I had to go down there 4 yes 4 times for them to starighten things out. They kept wiping out the reserved block , telling me I never went down there etc. Hopefully it is okay now, but to tell u the truth I am glad I booked a block of rooms at another hotel.

Re: VENT!!!! HOTEL I BOOKED FOR MY GUESTS
SHould I send out follow up notes for my guests about MotB??? Or should I let them find out the place is difficult to deal with like I did...OR should I call them and tell them all my issues and see what they can do for me and if they dont care then I tell all my guests not to go there and everyone else I meet till I die about my experience?

Re: VENT!!!! HOTEL I BOOKED FOR MY GUESTS
i think if you include a little note about MoTB in your invites in regards to accomodations, that should suffice?if you have people you KNOW are interested, you may want to send them an email or quick note if you feel the invites would be too late..
I would definitely say something to the management, and express your concern - that they be more vigilant about expressing their policies when reserving summer rooms.
If i were the manager, i'd have champagne in your room when you check in, to apologize for the mix up.
I hear more hotels are opening up in the area in the next few years (by atlantis, etc), so he may have to get with the program anyway lol!
