Spinoff earlier post - How many inches of snow would cause you to stay home?

How much snow should there be on the ground for me to decide not to make the trek to the train and get into the city?

I get such anxiety over this I want to have set what I will do. I already told my boss i was taking work home.

Yeah that's a good question..But how do you get to the LIRR in the morning? It would be a pain in the ass for me to get there in a foot of snow

I feel like the LIRR will never shut down...but I walk to the train in Bayside, and if there is almost a foot of snow...that could be a nightmare. I just feel so guilty ... especially if other LIers come in.

Re: Spinoff earlier post - How many inches of snow would cause you to stay home?

Bayside here too

I walk and it would just take me more time to get there. It's weird part of me would rather go to work instead of burn a personal day for snow. I like to take them on my terms

Re: Spinoff earlier post - How many inches of snow would cause you to stay home?

I would hate to use a personal day as well. I even hate taking days when I am sick...rather be well and enjoy the day off!

However, I would be able to work from home...but I hate to do this unless I really have to....especially if others come into the office.

My job emails in the morning to tell if we have to come in or not. They are very good about closing!

Ditto.
And I live one block from the LIRR so there's very little excuse for me. But Delays Delays.

I plan to pack a pillow some snack and a little water for tomorrow's trip in and out of the city. I plan to leave extra early and return home late to avoid the 'people'.

I feel anxious about Jim driving in this. He ALWAYS works. If JIm says home, I'll stay home. If I'm working I'm less likely to worry about if he's ok.

Re: Spinoff earlier post - How many inches of snow would cause you to stay home?

there's usually no excuse for anyone who works in NYC, because as long as public transporation is 'running' (not taking into consdieration delays), they will expect you to make the effort to come in. Of course the hardest part is GETTING out of your house and driving to the train station!!

shockingly enough, they just sent around an email today reminding us to 'call the emergency 800 number' to make sure the office is open/closed tomorrow .. I find that pretty funny, since is is ALWAYS open!!

ETA: edited to say that its even worse to try and make the effort when FH is definitely off tomorrow . he has a great boss and she already told him not to make the drive, to work from home... [sigh]

Like alot of you, it would probably have to be a foot or more and the trains are not running for me not to come in.

I don't know if LIRR works similarly, but Amtrak has already shut down some of its East Coast lines... just read that on Yahoo news.

Re: Spinoff earlier post - How many inches of snow would cause you to stay home?

Marcela -- I know what you're talking about!! My bosses all live in Manhattan also and they never got why I couldn't come in when it was 6 inches or more of snow!! Oooh, it burns my ass!!!

The year we had that really bad snow every other day and an ice storm I asked to leave a HALF-HOUR EARLY because my bus wasn't running and I took the N train (which is elevated) and I had to walk over a mile and a half to get home. Well, they had a fit!!! I ended up leaving anyway and it took me 2 hours to walk from home from the train!!!! And I almost got hit by a car to boot!

From then on, I told them that I am not jeopardizing my health for them and when I think it's really bad out, I either leave or don't come in. So pfffft on them!

It pisses me off because they come and go as they please and the best is when they leave early on a religious day that's not even theirs!!!! I would be here late, and they'd be long gone! Don't get me started.

Sorry I started venting away -- I guess it's because it's 5:42 and I was SUPPOSED TO LEAVE AT 5PM AND I'M STILL HERE WAITING FOR HIM TO GIVE ME THE WORK THAT HAS TO GET OUT TONIGHT???!!!!
