MOB dress color
Did anyones Mom get a black dress? My Mom is about to order hers. It is a black two peice. The jacket has tiny rhinestones as trim. It is a really nice gown and looks classy on her. The lighter colors made her look washed out. Anyway she asked me what I thought and I said it would be fine with me I just wanted her to be happy with her choice and feel good in her dress.Anyway I am starting to have second thoughts about the color. You know the old wives tales and such. Is the black a bad color for her to wear? Be honest!

Re: MOB dress color
BM's are wearing black and white dresses, so both moms got black outfits as well. The old 'etiquette' of not wearing black to a wedding is no longer followed. And I don't think it's bad luck.

Re: MOB dress color
Thanks for the responses. It is true a lot of people wear black to weddings. I just never saw a MOB in black.
I figured I was just having one of those moments where I second guess a decision.

Re: MOB dress color
I know i'm in the minority with this, but I really don't like seeing the MOB in black. I also come from a very traditional, somewhat superstitious family, so it is generally looked down upon...I do agree that it looks very elegant though, and if that's what your mom is happy in, then she should wear what she wants. Re: MOB dress color
My mom wore a black beaded dress for my brothers wedding. I think she looked beautiful but all eyes were really on the bride.
ETS As far as superstitions.... Forget them! In other cultures white is considered a mourning color for the dead and red is luck. Purple means your sad or missing someone.

Re: MOB dress color
My mom wore a very deep purple with glittery things, and DH mother wore charcoal grey with glitttery things. I say as long as the reception is at night you can do it... our began at 4:30, so it was a bit tougher to pull off.

My mother bought a black dress and is now second guessing herself. She looks great in it and asked me if it was okay with me. I said of course you can wear black you can wear whatever makes you feel the best in. This is 2004 and its MY wedding right?

Re: MOB dress color
My mom is wearing a black gown with some white comint through at an opening on the bottom. I think black is totally fine and if that is what mom is comfortable in than I say let her be comfy!!

Re: MOB dress color
Both my mom and MIL wore black to my wedding and it looked great on them. I really don't see that much of a difference between black and navy blue or dark purple to be honest. I think most people feel more comfortable in dark dresses and if they are comfortable, then they will have a better time.Go with what feels best and don't listen to everyone else if you and her both want black. Everyone has their own opinions and yours is what counts.
