Stressed about money & job-long
I am so stressed about money. I only make about $10,000 at my job and have been looking for a new one (preferably in education) but can't find one. I even apply for receptionist jobs to make $20,000 but I guess I am over qualified since I have a college degree (I am almost done with my Master's!) Meanwhile, I am not making enough to meet our wedding budget! I tried to cut the budget but we still can't make it! Any advice???

Can you get a weekend job? I used to work at a doctor's office on saturdays for a while.

You are making $10,000/yr fulltime, or part time? Full time that probably isn't minimum wage, unless my math is off...Maybe work at a bank? They get paid like 11-12 an hour, and they might be able to be flexible with hours? Just a suggestion.

Lemmy tell you I make 20,000 and thats not enough either. No matter how much you make it is not enough. The trick is to live on less.

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
WOW! I was just sitting here looking at my budget and realized with the amount I am putting aside now per paycheck, I will only have $500 for the DJ!!! I just told my supervisor that now I want to work Saturdays as well for the OT. I dont have enough money for anything, either....I have been eating cereal for breakfast and lunch and living on $60 a week just for gas and emergencies...i feel your pain. I have Valentine's Day and my best friends 30th birthday coming up and I still owe my other friend $60 for putting up the money towards my OTHER friends baby shower. Sorry to vent....

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
i'm with you all. i just graduated so now i am looking for a job teaching. i will settle for subbing. i did save some $ when i was working for something like a wedding so i have that cushion, but it still isn't a lot. so i am also looking for a night job, waitressing hopefully. i will use my day time $ for bills and life and the nighttime$ for the wedding.just BUDGET!!! write everything down!!! every expense. i have a daily/monthy budget sheet that i made up. it is easy to maintain and when you see it on paper what you spend, you would stop spending on what you don't need. i throw out the ulta circular, the dsw stuff, catalogs, etc. i can't tempt myself. but if anyone wants a copy of the budget thing, email me and i will send it to you. sounds cheesy but it helps!

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
Definately look inot a second job. Let me tell you...I make way more than that...but it's still hard to budget for the wedding....with a mortgage, 2 car payments, bills, food, etc. So...no matter what you make...it's still hard. Good luck!

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
Tell me about it... I make really decent money but I work in the city and also have the comparable amount of expenses to go along with it. I'm seriously considering something on Saturdays. Something that may benefit me down the line, like answering phones at a real estate office on Saturdays...

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
I waitress one night a week and sometimes cover for people. That extra $100 a week really helps even though I make a pretty decent salary. I use that as my spending money (for gas and food and stuff) and it stops me from taking money out of the bank (since I have direct deposit)!!!

Get your resume ready and send it out! Also, get a second job. IT sounds like you are working part time.

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
I think most of us feel the same way. I make a good amount of money and so does FI but we still feel strapped everyone now and then.I am the queen of coupons. There are times when I go to the supermarket and save close to 60% of the total bill. I even got of bunch of people at work into it and now we all bring in the ones we do not need and swap. I have been bringing lunch to work. I had no clue how much money I was wasting before.
FI and I had an attic full of things we didn't use. So we started selling them on EBAY. People will buy just about anything for the right price.

FI is a pack rat so it wasn't easy at first to convince him to sell stuff. Even though these things have been sitting in the attic for years.......

Re: Stressed about money & job-long
I thought I was the only one. I graduated in May and I have been sendingendless resumes and still NOTHING!!!!!!!!!! I have also applied receptionist
postions and I guess I am overqualified too. I am applying to Law School
for the fall and that will not allow me to work full-time next year so I have
decided to just apply to different kinds of positions such as waitressing
because I feel that this is the only kind of job where I could make decent
money and they are also flexible with their hours. And I just sent out
my resume to banks as well. Mr. Hostility is right. They do pay decent and
are flexible.
ETA: don't know why my posts come out like this. I hate my computer!!!!
That's anothter expense I need a new one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Find a supermarket the DOUBLES coupons. Buy the things on sale that you have coupons for - only the things you'll use, but buy like 4 or 5 of them - enough to last you through to the next sale.I use www.terislist.com, which explains this all and is a service you can use, but you can do this without it.
Are all your vendors booked? If not, you can try my page as a way to cost those costs.
