Girl Scout Cookies

Why do the Girl Scouts always sell the cookies during Lent? I don't get this. I ALWAYS give up sweets for Lent, and I know a lot of Catholics do! I just saw some guy in my office going around with a box selling them. And I'm sure when I go to the supermarket next weekend, the Girl Scouts will be there at the door selling them and I won't be able to buy any! This makes me so mad because I love the tag alongs!

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

Don't worry, Annie. Just buy them and freeze them! They'll be fine for you to open on Easter!!

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

That's what one of the Girl Scout moms told me to do. But don't they get freezer burn? Everything in my freezer gets ice crystals all over it! (This is why I registered for one of those food saver things )

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

Good news.....you can buy all you want...they FREEZE great!!

I have had people buy 30 boxes off of me and say that they freeze them so they have them all year!! The thin mints of course are good frozen anyway.

Just a little tidbit from a Brownie Troop leader!!

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

LOL!! That is why I stopped giving up sweets for Lent a long time ago. Remember the candy bars schools used to sell? They used to sell them around Lent as well. What were they called? World's Finest Chocolate?

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

I used to always have a hard time giving up sweets, but I've gotten pretty good at it, so now I think I might do something different. Maybe I'll give up cursing - every other word out of my mouth lately seems to be 'F'!

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

OMG! World's Finest Chocolate! That stuff was the best! I ordered Girl Scout Cookies too but haven't gotten them yet. I also heard of a cute kids recipe using Nila Waffers, a thin mint, and yellow/red icing (plus something else) to make a 'cookie burger'.

Re: Girl Scout Cookies

No freezer burn. GS cookies freeze fine.

We asked once why we had to sell them through lent (Im a graduated GS - whoohoo) and it's actually different in different regions. But it was once 'suggested' (cause no one admits it) that during lent 'some' people are trying to be more charitble and trying to spread good will. How better to do a good thing and feel good about yourself than to give money to a little girl for a good cause?

I buy boxes of Trefoils (The shortbread cookie) and they last all year! heh. That and Samoas (sp). Jim likes the new alohas (whatever their called)

Thin Mints I can only handle in small batches. They're good but I can't have too many.
