Silly question about Post office and invites
Ok, I'm behind the rest of the April girls but I'm ready to send out my invites tomorrow - so my question is - do I have to do or say anything special at the post office? I know I don't just put them in the mailbox but do I have to do anything?

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
You should speak to someone about hand cancelling the invites. I believe they give you a gun or something and you can do it yourself, off to the side.

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
You should hand cancel them - just ask them at the counter if you can do it yourself - it takes like 10 mins - they will give you a stamp and a pad and you just stamp slightly over the postage stamp - it is very easy and doesn't take long - if you hand cancel them they won't go thru the machines so they have a better chance of arriving less mangled and torn

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
I guess not all post offices do it. I went the other day to send out my save the dates and asked if I could hand canceled and they said no.

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
I went to the post office by Grand Central and was told that I can't do it but they will. He also said there is no charge for the first 50 envelopes then it's 5 cents for each one after that.Has anyone else heard of this?

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
We are hand cancelling ours...we just got an invitation in the mail that looked like a tractor ran over it...I would check another post office...we are doing ours in Woodbury or Syosset.

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
Chloegirl: Did you try any of the post offices by us? I wonder if they'll hand cancel them?Christine: Where did your parents hand cancel them? I'll go to Long Island to do it if I have to.
ETA: I just called the post office in Fresh Meadows and they said they would do it if they weren't busy. But if they're busy they'll let me do it

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
Try to go early in the morning. We went on Saturday to the Northport PO and the guy at the counter was not so nice and acted all annoyed even though I said I would do them. Then he came over & took the stamp back because apparently I was taking too long!! He speedily stamped the remaining 10 or so I hadn't gotten to.I was presently suprised that people started receiving them on Monday ... I thought maybe out of spite he threw them aside!!!

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
I sent mine from the levittown p.o. I asked them if I could hand cancel them and they told me they would have to do it in the back. I was worried they were just going to end up going through the machine anyway, but my guests said they arrived hand cancelled in perfect condition. I've never heard anything about them charging you.

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
i haven't heard of charging to have them hand cancelled. i just brought mine to the post office and the guy said that he would do it (i think my anxious 3 year old also helped
- he was tired of waiting on line) I was afraid that they wouldn't actually do it, but they did, people got them the NEXT DAY! Wow.

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
I ended up bringing them to the Post Office by Grand Central and I was willing to pay. But I had a very nice guy at the window and he took all of them for no charge. I was not allowed to do them myself. So let's hope they're not in a pile someplace

Re: Silly question about Post office and invites
Marcella, haven't tried the post offices by us. We will be out on the island anyway so just thought it would be easier since we know we can do it there. But I don't see why it would be a problem!Welcome New Vendors
