Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
I spoke with a DJ company that offers to have two screens up during the reception. Right before the bride and groom are introduced, there is a little video montage of the couple and then when the bride dance with her dad, there will be pictures of her through the years. And the same for the groom when he dances with his mom. For the rest of the party, a digital photographer walks around and takes pictures which are continuosly shown on the screen. They said the take about 150 pictures. There is the option for more $$ to purchase the photos, given to you as a DVD video or a CD of pictures.
Has anyone seen it done or have used it themselves? Opinions please!!!

which DJ company is it? I think ours does the same thing. I think it sounds like a cool idea.

I had actually seen it once at a wedding 2 years ago. IMO, it is more of a "Sweet Sixteen" prop. I honestly didn't care for it. To each his own...

My thoughts as well......It's a cool idea--but just not the 'look' (for lack of a better word) that we are going for.

I have heard of it from various video companies, but in my opinion it takes away from the elegance of the wedding.

I am not doing it for 2 reasons, it is not the "look and feel" I am going for and secondly it is too darn expensive. It just seems a bit unnecessay I would add a piece to my band or something instead of that.....jmo

I know Russo's on the Bay does that. I think it's a cute idea. Not EVERYONE will be tearing up the dance floor and it's something that will keep people's interest.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
We are having a video montage during dinner of the two of us growing up with our family and friends. I think it is sooooo nice, I love watching these kinds of things at weddings, even if it's just the two of you on the screen. I don't think it is too "Sweet 16" the day is about the 2 of you, and I think the whole thing is a great idea. JMO

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
I saw it done recently at a wedding this summer. I absolutely loved the idea, especially when my mug showed up on screen a few times. I didnt think it was "sweet 16ish" at all. they didnt do all the detail of the baby pics- jsut some ceremony pics and then the party pics...

I agree. Originally I wanted this because it was "cute", but FH was totally against it. He said it gave him a Sweet 16 kind of feeling. He wanted elegance. After giving it some thought, I had to agree with him. I still think it's cute.

I don't like the idea. It reminds me of a bat mitvah, not a wedding.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
My hall has the tvs in the cieling.. I think 3 of them .. and they come down at dinner for a photo montage.. and they also have a web cam thingy and it scans around the room and on the dance floor and takes video and pics all night and we get the dvd of everything at the end of the night ... I think its really cute.. something for the people who dont get up and dance to do... esp. if you have a large ballroom. and the people seated at the other end cant really see whats going on

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
I've never seen it done, but I suppose it would depend on what type of atmosphere you'd like at your wedding. That might be good for a younger, more casual 'party' crowd.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
I love the ideas of photo montages, but the "watch as it's happening" thing doesn't work for me.
They had it at the GTG and while it was cute, it was unsettling to me when I saw people on the screens dancing who weren't on the dance floor. *Note* this is not a complaint about the GTG, just a comment on something I saw that I wasn't crazy about for my own wedding.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
I decided to have something similar for my reception. A photographer will walk around during the cocktail hour and take pictures of our guests and then at some point during the reception they will show it on the screen. We definitely didn't want the whole photo montage of us when we were kids thru now but we did like the idea of having pictures of our guests on the screen to make them feel special in the sense they are a big part of our wedding day.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
We went to a wedding in February and this was done and it was a nice touch b/c after they walked in they showed clips of the ceremony i guess for everyone who wasnt able to attend and it was nice. The only downer is that while the bride and father were dancing they were kinda moving in one spot and they were watching the video themselves as well as all the guests and I think it takes away from the actually dance.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
We did it and can I say EVERY SINGLE PERSON THERE absolutely LOVED it!!!!!!!! My DH didn't really want it b/c of all the reasons above. It was the one thing that I REALLY wanted (I had seen it a long time ago). He gave in and it was such an unbelievable hit!!!! After the wedding, at the hotel he APOLOGIZED to me saying how right I was about it. His friends STILL mention it to us now 6 months later!!!!!
We had ONE screen. It played a montage of us growing up and coming together before we were introduced. We then had another montage with family and friends (with us) during dinner. We didn't have it before the father daughter and mother son dance. We just wanted it during dinner (at the end) so people we already sitting and could either watch it or not, their choice. He also walked around and took pics of our guests and flashed them on the screens...THEY LOVED IT!!!
I can't say enough about this, everyone loved it so much. The only bad thing was we didn't get the pictures (and I heard there were great ones) b/c it was digital and they just kept going over them. If I would have known beforehand I would have tried to work something out to get the disc.

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
I haven't seen that done. It sounds cool, but wouldn't it detract from you when you are actually dancing with your dad? Also, do you think the guests would feel comfortable if their pictures were put up on the screen?

That's why we didn't have it while we were dancing with our parents. Both times there was a montage, nothing else was going on.
We thought the guests would feel uncomfrtable too but they loved it!!! People were getting insulted if they weren't on it

Re: Opinion on having screens at the reception showing pictures of bride and groom and pictures of the party as it is happening?
My dj offers this...they even have a video guy film the ceremony and they can replay it before you are announced into your ceremony. I loved the idea, but I didn't want to spend the extra $$$$. My MOH had a photo montage at her wedding and it was awesome.
