I used to take Bikram Yoga at the NYHRC here in NYC.. what a great kickass class... they increase the temp in the room so that it resembles India's heat.. you sweat like an animal!

Hatha yoga is a very gentle, flowing style of yoga that focuses on deep breathing and is almost meditative in quality.
It's different from the more 'active' styles of yoga, like Bikram and Iyengar, which move you through each pose faster. Bikram yoga is also known as 'hot yoga' and is done in a heated room....120 degrees!! Yeeks. The heat is supposed to relax the muscles more, allowing you to be more flexible, and also to make you sweat out the toxins in your system.
wow. thanks.
which would be most recomended for a beginner? or someone who just wants to learn to really relax?

Re: Bikram Yoga for Fitness
The room is heated intentionally to allow you to work deeper and safer and to warm your muscles. The heat also heals, helps prevent injuries and promotes sweating which flushes toxins out of your system.

This type of Yoga is amazing. I did it once, had for the first time in my life had NO back pain for a week. The day before I was going to take another class I found out I was prego and was not allowed to it anymore. I am starting again this week
It is great!!

Re: Bikram Yoga for Fitness
good stuff!!I took few yoga classes at a local Bally's, but looking for something more professional. Then I saw Bikram Yoga done on Queer Eye, and Jessica Simpson swears by it.
I cant find anything in Brooklyn, so next best thing is to treck into the city. It will suck to be all sweaty and heeted up on the train, LOL.
