Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
Okay, here is the background...
In July 2002, my cousin was married at the swan club, and her wedding colors were lavendar and pink.
I am planning my wedding in May of 2005, almost three years later, at the same place and I choose a deep dark purple BM's dress, with the flowers colors being white and light purple, and my BQ being white with dark purple to go with the girls...
So my question is, do you think enough time has passed, that people won't compare the two weddings too much? I know my family well enough, that someone will say something dumb, but that can't be helped.
I have always loved the color purple in all it's shades, my room has been decorated in those colors the last 7 years.
My sister is just worried about what people will say, maybe compare things, and possibly hurt my feeling..
But I feel, this is what I have always wanted for my colors, and since it's the total opposite of hers, I'm thinking it will be okay?
Okay ladies let me know what you think...
Thanks as always Jen
ETS: I am using a different room than she did, she had a huge wedding and mine will be very small.

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
I think you are definitely sweating the small stuff! And, I think that if you pick a color you don't love, just to not be compared to a wedding over 2 years before, you will always regret it. Each wedding is personal, even if the colors were exactly the same and the wedding was last year, if they are the colors you want, then that is what you should go with!

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
I know, I agree with you.. I don't feel like I am sweating the small stuff.. but my sister and I just had a long talk about it and she got me thinking...that's what prompted my semi-vent - question

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
I would be lying if I said that I do not think people will compare (especially the ladies), because i think they will (i would) But the most important thing is that you & FH have a great time. Plus, I think the colors are different enough (dark purple is different than lavender).

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
I think you are fine! There are people in my family who will compare my wedding to one 20 years ago! Don't worry about it There are many more difference than similarities.

I agree... that how FH family is... they dont care if you got married at Oheka or swan club... they would still compare it. but the flowers ARE different.. and maybe you can do something for your to stand out... like the chocolate fountain!! everyone will talk about it and im sure your cousin didnt have that

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
I'm sure that enough time has passed for people to not compare the two. And besides, you're sisters! Of course you'll have similar tastes! (Of course, I agree with the other girls, and think that dark purple and lavender are two completely different shades.)
Besides, your wedding is small, hers was big, there are definitely enough differences.

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
I say go for it and don't spend another second thinking about what others will think. Truth be told they will compare the weddings but they'll also compare your wedding to a ton of other weddings in the family includingtheir own - that's how people are. As long as you are doing what you want then it'll be absolutely perfect.

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
Don't worry about it. Like the other ladies said people will always find a reason to compare weddings. Your wedding will be different bc it's all you and your FH!

You have nothing to worry about! Do your own thing. You are talking about weddings years apart, different sizes and in different rooms. Do whatever you want!

I agree. My favorite color is purple and I always said I wanted that color for my wedding. I am a bridesmaid for my aunt in July and she was thinking of using lavender. Since mine is in Sept. I wasn't going to use it if she did. (She's not.)But really three years is a long stretch. I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
You could have your wedding at a different location and some people will still compare your wedding to another that they went to. It just is a fact of life. I would use the colors you want- and have YOUR wedding the way you want.
Just so you know- I had a deep purple BM gown and I had a BQ of 3 shades of purple roses, snowberries, and white steph. I also then had each of my BM's BQ made of one of the shades of the roses, snowberries, and freesia. so the BM BQ were a bit different from each other. I also had the hem material from the dresses used to wrap the BQs.

If those are the colors you want then go for it! (Plus, it is not exactly the same as your cousin's colors, so I really wouldn't worry.)

Re: Opinion Question (Kinda long..sorry)
Go for it!!
If it makes you feel better-I'm getting married at the same place ( I booked first) my cousin did just last year. It gets worse... When I started planning they (engaged forever but never made plans) used a lot of ideas I wanted ..colors,flowers,etc..
I'm getting married in 5 months and while I feel some pressure to make it different I know it will be compared to theirs ....
