I heard a rumor...

I heard a rumor......That starting March 1st 2004, some Caribbean islands are going to need visitors to carry passports. Did anyone else hear about this?

Do you know if St. Lucia is one of those places that requires visitors to carry passports, or Can Danielle and I use our birth certificates?

Keep in mind this is a new law...I know we can use our birth certificates before the law started, but I wasnt sure if St Lucia was one of the islands that we would require a passport.
Thanks,
Scott

Re: I heard a rumor...

yes this is true. i know for a fact that Barbados is one that has this new rule. FH and I had to go get passports b/c the cruise we are taking the 2nd week of our honeymoon stops in barbados for one day!
didn't love the idea of the additional $170 expense but i guess we needed them eventually anyway so no biggie.

Re: I heard a rumor...

i was told we only needed a birth cert for Jamaica!
I hope thats the case because i don't have the money to get 2 passports right now! (how long do they take to get, in case)

does this apply to Jamaica too?

Re: I heard a rumor...

I have a question for those just getting their passports now -- is the passport in your married name? If so -- how did you do that??

My FH & I are thinking of going to the UK for our HM. We already have passports - but obvoiously mine isn't in my married name.

Did this matter (legally or emotionally) to anyone?

Thanks!

Re: I heard a rumor...

I am also going to St. Lucia for my honeymoon. I called my travel agent & asked if we needed a passport. She told me that some of the islands are going to start requiring passports but she wasn't sure which ones. She suggested we get them to be on the safe side. We went a few weeks ago. It's not hard but is kind of expensive.

My passport is in my maiden name..........

my passport is in my maiden name, which is why I'm not going to change my name b/f the honeymoon. just won't have enough time to do it, nor do I need any complications.

I'm changing everything when we get back (doesn't change the fact that we'll be married , more than enough for me!!!)

Re: I heard a rumor...

Rumor may have started because of this article in Sunday's Newsday

http://www.newsday.com/travel/ny-trlin0307,0,961927.column?coll=ny-travel-headlines

It's a good idea to have a passport anyway.

Re: I heard a rumor...

sorry - but don't most people have a passport anyway? I'm always surprised when brides say they didn't know they needed a passport. Many islands are British territories so it makes sense that you are required to have a passport.
