Changing Name at DMV (can't find answer through search) UPDATE
I went to change my name officially at Social Security this afternoon. I read here that people were able to go to DMV soon after and change their name there (assuming without their new Social Security card). I asked for documentation to bring to DMV so I can take care of it tomorrow and I was told that I need my new Social Security card to bring to DMV because they are very strict. Did anyone hear of this? Is this new?Update on 3/9: I went to DMV and was successful. I didn't need to show my social security card or the receipt from that office. Now I'm well on my way of officially becoming a Mrs!

I haven't heard of it. I actually changed my name at DMV first and then Soc Sec - both in the same day though

I was going to go tomorrow then I'm told I need to wait a couple of weeks. Maybe I will just call and ask. I would like to get this over with soon!

I didn't need my social security card at all to change my license. Actually, I haven't changed my SS# yet

Re: Changing Name at DMV (can't find answer through search)
Who the heck knows is my answer!
I had a nightmare experience with this! I called my local dmv office (college point) like 5 different time, talked to SS about it and went on the dmv website and all times, they all told me that I did not need to change my name at SS first. So I went with what they told me and since I had to renew my license anyway, I went to DMV...what a nightmare!
They made me go through all the steps and approx. 3 hours later there I was fighting with what seemed like the entire office and they wouldnt let me change my name with just my marriage license. It was total and complete HELL!
So I dont know what to tell you, just wanted to make you aware of my situation!

I changed my name at DMV first, you have to bring your marriage license and old Social Security Card. I changed it at Social Security the following week.Welcome New Vendors
