Re: NWR: Jenny2penny can you help me?? or anyonelse who knows.. diet related

Okay, it sounds like you're ready to make major life changes. If so, you should consider Body for Life. I was on it for a year and 1/2 and it really transformed me.

www.bodyforlife.com and get the book 'Body For Life' by Bill Phillips.

It's a common sense training and diet schedule. You alternate weight and cardio training everyday, but for no more than an hour each day, and you take one day off and eat whatever you want. You also eat 6 small meals a day. Check out the before and after pics, both on their website and on yahoo groups - there are many for BFL and women on BFL specifically.

It's a commitment, but it does work.

Re: NWR: Jenny2penny can you help me?? or anyonelse who knows.. diet related

About 6 or 7 years ago I was 165lbs, on a 5'4 frame... now I'm 130lbs... mostly muscle weight... and I'll tell you, there's no easy way to do it. I decided 7 years ago, at the inspiration of my brother, that I was just tired of being out of shape. I watched my grandparents struggle with their health in their 90's, and watch as my parents struggled with serious health issues, and decided, I want to live a long, ,happy, healthy life. I think that's what made the difference - the emphasis wasn't losing the weight, but becoming healthy. So, I started working out - seriously. I was overweight, but I started to jog - slowly, and built my way up over the years to a quick jog What really made the difference was committing myself to working out at least 4 times a week, for about 30-40 minutes. My brother kept telling me, if you keep it up for 3 months, after that, it just becomes habit - and he was right, because I haven't stopped ever since... hope that helps!!!!

Well, you measure yourself - Weight, obviously, but measurements with a measuring tape as well, and you measure your body fat, which is something that a lot of people have misconceptions about, but that people need to understand. Since you're doing weight training, you gain muscle weight, but you lose bodyfat. And you only take these measurements once every 4 weeks - you try not to think about them otherwise.

I would say that you could see results in like two-three weeks.

It's your Bodyfat that counts, not so much your weight on the scale. If you lose 5 pounds, but lose 10 pounds of bodyfat, then you've gained 5 pounds of muscle, which is a great thing! The more muscle you have the more calories your body burns at all times. Also, muscles look much better than fat on a body - leaner - the difference between someone at 130 pounds with a 30% BF and a 20% BF is massive in terms of how they look in a bathing suit.

If you go to the website most of this is explained. But get the book as well - it tells about this in much more detail.

OMG - get the book, it's all about 'Crossing the Abyss', as Bill Phillps put it. Or go on the website to the Q&A and click on it. And read some of the stories and look at the pics. Or go to yahoogroups and find a BFL women's group and look at their pics. The pictures are really a great motivation - when you take your before pic, it's a real eye opener.

Re: NWR: Jenny2penny can you help me?? or anyonelse who knows.. diet related

Well, they push Myoplex, a meal supplement, but you don't need to do it. Take a vitamin and get some whey protein and you should be fine. The 6 meal a day thing might be a challenge otherwise, but just get some tupperware or those ziploc containers and make all of your meals one or two nights a week, then freeze them. Your portions will be smaller, so it won't be so bad. You'll have to buy more chicken breasts, fish, and lean beef, so that might be a bit more expensive. Also, a meal can be a yogurt and some cottage cheese.

As for specifics - each meal should have a protein and a high quality carb. There's a list in the book of what counts. And a vegetable. But what I loved about it was that I could go out and eat - just had to make sure I got a whole wheat turkey burger. MANY receipes on the website.

Weight training - you need at minimum a weight bench and dumbells. there are many basic exercises that you can pick from, and you alternate between upper and lower body. The books says it takes 45 minutes to do - it always took me an hour. I tried to ALWAYS do it first thing in the morning - once it was done I could look forward to the rest of my day.

Cardio- can you run around your block? That'll work. It's a 20 minute intensity program.

Schedule might be: Sunday - Cardio 20 min. - Tuesday- Weight training, upper, Wed. Cardio, Thursday, Weight training, lower, Friday, Cardio, Sat. FREE DAY - eat WHATEVER you WANT!

Hope this helps!
