Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

I just booked my honeymoon!! I'm so excited!

What do you think about travel insurance (for trip cancellation, etc.). Did you all get it?

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

ABSOLUTELY!!!! my friend was planning to go to hawaii for her honeymmon in august. her FI is in the reserves and now has to go to and iraq for a year at the end of april. needless to say they had to push up the wedding and cancel the honeymoon. thankfully, (due to the insurance) they got their deposit back and was able to cancel the honeymoon.

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

WE got it for our honeymoon and I am so glad that we spent the $400!! You see, we got married in October of 2001. Right after 9/11 we decided to cancell our 2 week cruise and good thing we had the insurance.

We got back all of our $$$ except the insurance price!

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

ok ok, it sounds like i should get it. but, it seems so expensive, it's like $400 from individual providers (my travel agent doesn't offer it to me because i'm in a different country than he is).

Any recommendation on where to get it, or what kind to get?

Thanks!

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

YES! YES !

I was on my honeymoon in Italy when FAR & WIDE filed for bankruptcy!!!! Long story ... FM for details. Basically we left NY w/ vouchers for our entire trip from trains to hotels.... when FAR & WIDE filed bankruptcy our vouchers were no longer valid. So basically while we were in Italy we had to pay for our entire trip again except airfare.

Anyway --- DH purchased travel insurance but the travel insurance was through Far & Wide so it was not even valid. If there is a way to get seperate insurance I would do that (through your credit card or something).

My DH is an attorney so in the end everything worked out after a big ordeal w/ the travel agency! The travel agency re-imbursed us for the trip in the end.

This is pretty rare for a travel wholesaler to go out of business but I guess it does happen though!

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

YES! We paid like $29 together for the both of us for when we went to Hawaii, and he actually had to go to the emergency room because of heat exhaustion. Saved us $300 and change in doctor's bills since it was covered.

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

I got it and used it!

It's really very important, especially with all the international flight cancellations that I had around the time of my wedding. We got $$ for each day that a flight was cancelled, plus coverage to stay in a foreign place if we were 'stranded.'

Re: Should I get travel insurance for honeymoon?

It is a good idea if you have an out of the ordinary trip planned, like a cruise or several different stops in your itin or are travelling far like overseas....but right here in the USA waste of money...but if you do purchase buy from a seperate company..this way if your travel company or agency goes under you are covered....it's best to book everything through your carrier direct (airfare, hotel, excursions, etc)....my 2nd job is with a major airline carrier....if you are not booked directly thru the airline you're screwed regardless of insurance...the carrier will cover you 100% and throw in lots of extras to make you happy...I have seen many customers at the counter a***d out, those travel agents you can't call after hours....even if you don't do everything through the airline thenbook with American Express Travel or Carlson Wagonlit Travel those are the only 2 that stand by their customers...the rest rob you....good luck ladies
