About my BILs house fire...for those with pools

It's not the final conclusion as to how their house went on fire, but they think it's from the pool chemicals that were stored under the deck. Just wanted to let those of you who have pools know to check the labels on this stuff, some of the different chemicals are not supposed to be stored together, and should be stored within certain temperatures. They think that the containers expanded when it warmed up 2 weeks ago, and the bottles cracked, and the solutions mixed and were combustible. If this is what caused it, what are the chances? It's such a freak accident

They are doing much better, they rented a house, they have very generous neighbors and friends who donated lots of stuff plus $$. The insurance will cover the costs of EVERYTHING that was lost, which is good.

I'm glad they're doing well and insurance is covering everything. Thanks for the info about the chemicals. I will pass it along to DH since the pool is his department. I'll bet he didn't know that.

DH's family home burned to the ground years ago. It was determined that the fire was most likely caused by dryer lint.

Let me tell you, I have the cleanest dryer in the world. I not only clean out the tray, I take it out and reach waaaay down for lint.

Re: About my BILs house fire...for those with pools

It is very scary... In nassau County you are not allowed to sell pool chemicals in an enclosed area. I work for a whse and according to the fire marshall we are not allowed to carry the products in the store b/c they are so highly combustable. Which is why a lot of pool store or Home depot type stores carry the chemicals either outside very well ventalated or in a seperate shed.
