What is everyone doing about changing their names?
Just curious. I am 38 and although I want to change my name to his I feel that at 38 I have established myself. I am only giving myself two options (1) hyphenate or (2) just take his. I dont have a middle name so hyphenating should sound ok. He wants me to just take his. If we have a child (hopefully) they will have his name either way.

I hyphenated. He really wanted me to take his name, but this was our compromise. I feel that I have established myself career-wise and didn't want to lose my name completely. Our children will have his last name.

Re: What is everyone doing about changing their names?
Why don't you do what I did, move your maiden name to your middle name and add his as your last name. I don't have a middle name either, so this worked out perfectly for me because I didn't really want to give up my maiden name at all, but yet I wanted to take my husband's name.

Re: What is everyone doing about changing their names?
Well right now (and this changes everyday
) I am keeping my maiden name at work, but changing it everywhere else. My HR stuff will have my new name on it, but my co-workers & those I work with will refer to me by my maiden name. Of course, I may decide to change everything in the end!

Re: What is everyone doing about changing their names?
although i would rather keep mine, i am taking his. when it comes to cetain things, FI is very traditional. he would be offended if i didn't take his name. we had talked about using my maiden name as one of our (future) children's first name.

On the wedding license I will have my new last name, but the lady at the marriage license place told me I will always be the last name I had if I do not change it legally- I will probably hyphnenate that way I can use either one.

I wanted to keep my last name too - but FH got really offended
. I didnt think it was that important to him but it turns out that it is. Does anyone know if you can have your diplomas changed to reflect your 'new' name?

I believe you can. My firend is a doctor...she had to change her medical license and med school stuff. She said it was a PITA! Good luck.

Re: What is everyone doing about changing their names?
Our names don't sound right when you hyphenate and legally - you cannot use your maiden name as your middle name. Somehow people do this though so I think you just have to get lucky. The people at the marriage license office told us it is not possible as well as other state officials. Makes no sense to me though and I know tons of people who did it.I need to decide soon because my passport expires in 7 months (and is not valid 6 months before expiration) so I need to get a new one soon and can't decide what my name should be!!!
I was ready to take my husbands name until he told me that he would be VERY upset if I tried to keep my last name. That upset me so much that I really want to keep it now (stupid reason I know but when I am told I have to do something - I resist)
