FMIL is upset because we don't have a flower girl or ring bearer

She was asking me about what kind of ring pillow I want. I said,

'oh, I don't need one'

So, she says, 'how is the ring going to get down the aisle?'

I say, 'in the best man's pocket'

She says, 'what about your neice and nephew?'

I say, 'they're too old for that. My nephew is 14 and my niece is 12. They will be regular members of the bridal party. And, we don't even know if they can make it. They may still be in school at that time. They need a few days to fly out.'

She says, 'OH MY GOD!!!! YOU DON'T HAVE A RING BEARER OR A FLOWER GIRL??? HOW CAN YOU GET MARRIED WITHOUT THEM???'

I say, 'I don't know. We just...get married. And, besides that, it's not like we have a choice, we don't have any little kids in the family.'

So, she was just about to say something- I think she wanted me to have her nephew's kid as the flower girl (but, we don't get along with the cousin AT ALL) And, I just walked away and laughed.

Gee, how can I possibly get married without a RING BEARER?

We have no ring bearer or flower girl.

But Im thinking of getting a cool box for the rings one for the Best man and one for the Maid of Honor. Jim thinks we should use the ones we got from the jewerly store, they are nice, but I want to keep the red/gold theme.

I had such a similar situation, but with the FG. I have a ring bearer, my 6 yr old cousin. But we don't really have anyone in the family that we are close to at all for the FG. But there is a 5 year old girl, who is my FMIL's cousin's granddaughter, who I met once, (last December) and FH has met like twice. So we are winding up having a FG needless to say....

My FI and I have way too many little cousins, nieces and nephews so we said no children in the BP. Just the other day I got a call from my FBIL asking when are we ordering his daughters flower girl dress. I was like Oh god here we go!! Luckly, FI told him that we were only having adults (which is the truth). I am sure the wedding will go on with out a FG/RB@

I agree. We're having 2 FGs but no ring bearer. The FGs are my FH's neices. They want to do it soooo badly, how could I not have them. But there's no reason to ask someone you barely know just to 'fill the space.'

I'm wishing I didn't have them...my 3 yr old niece keeps telling me she won't let me brush her hair for the wedding!!!!

She has this crazy, little blonde head of hair...her nickname is MARTHA, after Martha Stewart with that crazy I'm-on-trial hairdo. Always a mess! I don't know what I'll do.

I think that some moms and fmil's have the old fashioned ideas of weddings. You reacted perfectly just laugh it off!!
