Negociating Tips Needed

Hello ~ This weekend we are going to book our reception site (The North Ritz Club) and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to negociate for a lower price or for anything extra.....or is it useless to even try

Re: Negociating Tips Needed

This is what worked for me...

Wow, I really love that. It's great! Oh, it's $95 per person. I REALLY want it, but I only have $87 per person.

Then, they'd come back with $90 per person.

Good Luck!

WHOA!! That;s a lot of money - I am not paying even close to that much, but maybe because I am getting married in the off season. We got the prices for different months before we settled on a date. We didnt really negotiate for the hall, but we have with other vendors and the only real recommendation I have is to be stern. Even if you have to walk out - cause you can always call back and say you changed your mind. We used this tactic and got my e-ring for 40% off

Re: Negociating Tips Needed

I'm not getting married there but there are some things I was able to do

Try to negotiate the service charge. Even 2-3% helps. Most places don't include gratuity in the service charge so be aware of that.

Instead of adding any items on (I know you may not be doing this) ask for it to be included. We wanted crab cakes instead of a salad and just asked and it was no problem. There was no charge. We also got a lamb carving station instead of a cheese and crackers station!!!!

If you need to get the price per person lowered and you will have more people than their minimum - you have leverage. Reduce per person charge by a few bucks since they will make their target number with the number of people you are having. In good faith - you need to try to imagine you have a new minimum of course or they can up the per person charge for the reduced number of guests. If they won't budge - then tell them you have to lower your guest list to their minimum to stay within your budget.

My other trick that has worked amazingly well is to get all the info and sit a bit (works if dates are flexible) Then call them back and ask what they can do for you. Tell them you have other options but they are your favorite!
If there is anything they can do with the price - you can send the deposit immediately (and then be prepared to do so)
Every vendor LOVES money in their pocket that minute and they don't have to worry about booking that date later.

If they can't give you the price - say you need more time. That annoys everyone!!! My vendors usually gave in and asked what price I wanted.

If you are off season at all or on a night other than Saturday - you have added leverage.

Re: Negociating Tips Needed

I was unable to negotiate with the North Ritz. I really loved it, but didn't think we were going to be able to afford a Sat. night. We went back 2 weeks later and asked if they could do anything for us. We wouldn't be able to meet the minimum of 225 people for Sat. night so they lowered the minimum which was great, but the price also went up because of the lower minimum. Hope you have better luck than I did!! I'm still really happy that I booked(even though I'll be broke It is expensive after you add tax and gratuity to the price compared to other places, but worth it!
