Not that I am being mean because I'm really not. I'm more a Yankee fan but I'm gung ho about baseball in the first place.

But how can you say "first place" when the season *just* started?

Half the teams haven't played yet...they were exhibition games right?

Just curious.

Re: FIRST PLACE METS WIN... AND I FEEL LIKE SUCH A DIVA TONIGHT! LOL

Congrats Only Mets fans could get so excited over ONE measely win ...in APRIL, no less!

I'm SLIGHTLY happy about the Mets winning (and I do mean very slightly) because (1) they beat the evil Braves, and (2) it brings a little joy to my FH, who also foolishly roots for this minor league team in Queens. Good thing my FH's taste in women is a helluva lot better than his taste in baseball teams!!

So to him, and the rest of you, enjoy your time to gloat & cheer. Let this proud moment carry you through the rest of your season.... and remember to look back on it fondly when you have begun to hit rock bottom by the All Star break

Just like Derek Jeter can remember all the whining he did when Steinbrenner questioned his work ethic and all night partying. he can remember that the next time he and Steinbrenner are doing the conga in their next Mastercard commercial.

Oh, and let's not forget the BALCO twins -- Giambi and Sheffield

I can see it now, BALCO night at the Stadium. Fans 14 and older get an autographed Giambi or Sheffield steroid needle -- sponsored by BALCO.
What a bunch of hypocrites! Go Sox!! Go Mets!!!!!

Ahhhh ... nothing like a bitter, jealous Mets fan to pull out all the stops in order to make a point...though I'm not quite sure what your point is, but anyway ...

I don't bother comparing the Yankees to the Mets, because there IS NO COMPARISON between champions and wannabees... puhleeze! And I'm certainly not going to pick your team apart , since there's no player on the Mets worthy of my efforts.

I will merely reiterate that you and your fellow Mets fans should enjoy these little moments of victory while you can ... they undoubtedly will NOT last

You are right -- there is no comparison because the Yanks have made their bed by buying the competition and cheating

I see what you're saying.. but here's what I would say in resposnse.. all the teams have now started in the Mets (NL East) division.

And the Mets are in first place right now.

Somebody's gotta be in first.

And right now.. it's US!

Though technically, we are tied with the World Champion Florida Marlins. I forget who they beat to win it all.. but that's not important. Musta been some real crappy team though!

Ha! Given the chance, the Mets would have "bought" themselves the "competition" if they knew what they were doing. I'm not incorrect when I state that the Mets have a pretty high payroll themselves, now don't they? They just don't know how to go after the right players (and the good players dont want to GO to the Mets, either) How is it the YANKEES fault that they are far more business-saavy than than the Mets on ALL counts?

Anyhow, I really find the "money" argument pathetic . Money doesn't buy championships .. the Marlins proved that last year. I love it when the Mets and their fans whine that the Yankee win so much because we "bought" it. Again I state puhleeze. We certainly didn't have the best team with the top money players in '96 .. the mighty Braves were supposed to crush us.. but good management, teammanship and spunk pushed us ahead.

I hear what you;re saying Felicia --

Here's what I think.. the Mets are guilty of going after high priced players who were done. Marquee names to fill seats. The Mets used to have the second highest payroll. Now they're in the middle... or maybe the top ten. I dunno to be honest. I know it's like 80million. Which is a lot. Now there were good players who DID want to go the Mets. (A-Rod in 2001.. but the Mets screwed it up.. and A-Rod's agent is a... well.. nevermind.. lol)

Money does not buy championships. But money will keep you near the top. Money will give you the chance to make a run at players from small time markets who want their share of what they believe they deserve. Money will keep Jeter, Posada and the home-grown boys at home. Money brings money.

I think the Yankees getting A-Rod was not a good thing for baseball. The idea for baseball is not to financially crush the competition. It's to have as best as league as possible with all teams having a shot at winning it all. The baseball fan should want a league of 32 good teams.. not a league of just 2 mega-teams .. and 30 other blah's.

That's why the Yankees winning in 96 was KINDA cool.. Not very.. but kinda.. LOL They beat the Braves (which is good).. and the same thing happened to the Yankees last year when the Marlins beat the Yanks.

It's not always fun when one team out of 31 always seem to get things their way. (That's not saying they broke the law.. but it's fun to watch a team of guys.. not a group of All-Star names win it all.

Every team has to go in cycles.. and while the Yanks had a great team (no debate there) from 96-00... and still do.. the Yanks still have to get on the field and play 162 games.

Wins over the D-Rays are not givens.. and lots of Yankee fans -- NOT YOU -- think the Yankees shouldjust march over an "insiginficant" team like the D-Rays.

Of course the Mets are guilty of some real errors in judgment.. and some bad luck. Who would have thought that Alomar coming here would have been so bad?

I just want to see an even competition. I think that's what's good for baseball. And I think that only about 5 teams need show up this year to play the games. Mets not included.

Then again.. once in a while there's a magical run. I love to see that. I love the underdog. The guys without the cash. And they'll always have to beat the guys with the cash.. because the cash will keep you there..

WOW.. I wrote a book!
