New Hyde Park/Queens area

Just moved here off of Hillside Ave. right on the Queens/Nassau border. Anyone know of any good pizza, chinese or restaurants. Where is the post office and train station? Thanks!

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

Try Eddie's Pizza on Hillside. It's in a bar and they don't serve by the slice ... they serve 'bar pies.' It's on the thinnest crust -- like matzoh almost. I'm not making this sound appetizing but it's yummy. It's an experience if nothing else. I used to love this stuff as a kid (I grew up there.)

Chinese: we used to go to a place on Hillside near Dairy Barn but God only knows if it's still there bc the neighborhood has changed so much.

Go to Umbertos on Jericho Turnpike for a delicious dinner or pizza. They have a really nice sit down area on the other side of the restaurant that alot of people don't know about.

The N22 also runs along Hillside and takes you directly to the F train if you want a cheaper route to NYC. There's also a post office right near the NHP train station, but Lake Success is probably closer.

I miss the food and shopping in that area....not the same out here in the stix.

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

Hey that's my area too!! We live off of Jericho on the boarder of Floral Park Near the Volkswagon dealer.
For Pizza- DEFINITLEY EDDIES!!! FH and I are there almost every week. We have a serious addiction to that pizza (the bar pies) they are SOOOOO good.
Also- Ciros Pizza on Jericho (IMHO- better than Umbertos) or Mama Theresa's on Jericho next to Waldbaums. Mama T's makes an AMAZING buffalo chicken slice (YUM)
I can't think of the name of the Chinese place either, but it's on New Hyde Park Rd and Union Tpke and it's by far the best place we've tried.
There are 3 post offices around- the one on Lakeville, the one near the train station and there is another one on Hillside next to Eddies Pizza called the Hillside Manor Station.
If you go up Hillside into Williston Park right near the train tracks is one of our favorite places- TR's (Teddy Roosevelts). It's a really good 'American Food' type place. You get really good wraps, steak sandwiches, bergers...those types of things.
So those are our favorites. FM me if you have any other questions!
Welcome to the 'hood!

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

definately Eddies pizza... althought one thing is to make sure you order enough...the thin crust seems to make everyone eat more of it to fill up

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

Umbertos is the best place for Sicilian pizza. It's on Jericho Tpke. in New Hyde Park. As far as th epost office, there is one over on Tulip Ave.

Hey! I know that Chinese place. We live on Langdale! Thanks for all the great tips. Where do you guys do your shopping? What is the nearest mall? Roosevelt Field? I am originally from Westbury and find myself always heading back that way to shop. Is the train station for New Hyde on Jericho Tpke?

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

stop and shop is right there and Old Navy!! woohoo! and eckerds.
Waldbaums is on Union Tpke. with Duane Reade. theres a couple CVS's- one west on Hillside, one east on Jericho.

We go to Roosevelt Field or The Source. we always head out to Westbury to shop too.

the new hyde park station is down New Hyde Park Rd. (just past Jericho tpke.)

I live right across from Carvel. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

I live right down the block from the CVS on Jericho!
I'm always at that Old Navy! LOL and if we need to go shopping we'll go to Roosevelt Field or for a run to Macy's we usually go to the Manhasset/Community Drive one cause there's less traffic.
Also there is a really good hair salon just to the west of Stop & Shop... Reflection Hair Salon. FMIL is very good friends with the owners. They are great over there. Go to Terri (the owner) or Stacey.

When I get back from my HM we should all meet up at Eddies!

Nothing to add right now except welcome to the neighborhood. I am pretty close also right off Union Turnpike over by Springfield boulevard.

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

I grew up in Floral Park and my best friend lives right off Hillside Ave. We used to hang out at the school PS 172 all the time back in the day. I get my hair cut at the place across from the Stop and Shop shopping center, A Touch of Class II.

Re: New Hyde Park/Queens area

hey ... grew up in the area

pinkel nails Hillside and Denton right next to Bagels and a Whole lot more (great Bagel Place) and across from the carwash (also great).

I reccomend Hairsay on Jericho and Marcus ( Mamma T's shopping Center) Great Staff and a NO attitude salon. They are an Aveda salon so they have tons of great products !!! I have been getting pizza from gigi's for years (In Stop and Shop Center) but Umberto's is the best Pizza in LI if you ask me (they don't deliver). Chinese is Empire Gardens, Sushi Jani in Mineola. Best Pub Food Trinity on Jericho in Floral Park.

Enjoy the neighborhood
