Re: Do you tip the band?
I think usually you tip the band leader, and he/she divies it out.. but if you just LOVED the sax player, etc you can give him/her an extra tip.JMO

Re: Do you tip the band?
If you did not book your band through an agent, don't they split the fee anyway? Is it always necessary to tip them? My band is 10 pieces.

Re: Do you tip the band?
I am sorry but I think you should tip the band...my mother is a musician and they work very hard for the $, believe me... learning new songs, judging the crowds correctly and playing what they want to hear.
If you are paying all this $ for a band, I don't understand why you wouldn't want to do right by them.
I had a 12 piece band... $50 was $600... I set aside $1000 in my budget for tips. I don't think it's right to tip the photographer, the videographer, etc and ignore the band... especially when they are (in my opinion) one of the most important aspects of the day.
I also think it's sort of cheap... we spend on average 20-40k on weddings on Long Island, yet you'll fuss over spending $500 on tips?

I understand where you are coming from, but bands aren't exactly cheap. Yes, they work hard, but isn't that why they get paid $6,500+?

i agree with you ... yes it is very expensive and if you are supposed to tip the band then you should
even$25-30 is fine but nothing is not right at all....the music really MAKES OR BREAKS your affair
that is the truth
i don't know what i will give but i am sur eif they do a fantastic job like i expect than they will get as much as they deserve-JMO
you always tip for services
they don't see all of that $7000..the company sees much of it

Re: Do you tip the band?
Yeah and that $6500 is divided by a few people, and the band leader usually gets a large percentage of that. Band members have a very hard job as well as a high overhead to take care of their instruments and equipment, as well as keeping up to date with modern music, etc.I think we tip so many people at the wedding- hair dressers, make up artists, photographers, etc- I don't understand why bands wouldn't get tipped?
If you can't afford a band, get a DJ and then you only have to tip 2 people...

Re: Do you tip the band?
I don't plan to tip the band that much - probably $20 each (8 pieces).

Re: Do you tip the band?
I am not getting nasty.Just telling it how I see it...
This is the one tip that everyone sees as *optional* and I don't understand why.. yes, there are a lot of band members- but that doesn't mean they should be penalized for it.
It's an issue I take to heart, as my mother usually gets no tip, and no meals because people are so busy spending $40k on a wedding, they can't be bothered to pay $50 for her to eat- so by the time she goes to work, plays and comes home- like 10 hours later- she hasn't eaten one thing and it pisses me off- because they are PEOPLE.. and then she does all this work, sets up, has a nice waredrobe, learns new songs, special for the bride & groom, and then gets no tip.

That's pretty bad that someone wouldn't feed the band. I know how I get when I'm hungry. I wouldn't want any of my vendors to feel that way!

My thought exactly. I have no problem affording a band. Tipping is not mandatory, it is suggested. If you don't want to tip, you don't have to.
