Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
So Im talking to my FMIL last night and she asked if I could find out what color my mom is wearing and what style dress. Um....... I thought MOB/MOG wear what ever the hell the want. Can someone fill me in on how this works. I dont think my mom knows what to do either and I would want to fill her in. Thanks!!

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
Traditionally the MOB picks her dress first, then the MOG. Adn they should NOT match colors of the BMs.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
according to my mother, the etiquette is that the MOB is supposed to get her dress first. Then MOG gets her dress. well, my FMIL got hers first, and lets just say my mom wasn't too happy with that.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the MOB and MOG should compliment your bridal party, so the moms should coordinate. The dresses don't necesarily have to be similar in style, but they colors shouldn't clash with each other or anything else you have planned. My girls are wearing cranberry, MOG is wearing beige and my mom is still looking for a dress, but she's thinking of getting a blush dress.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
Yes, the ladies are correct in what they said. You want coordinating colors for your pictures and if one is wearing a ball gown the other may not want a simple straight dress with a jacket. Be happy your FMIL is interested and asked first. I sent my daughter's FMIL a picture of mine and then she bought her's.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
Um....now Im really confused. I thought they were supposed to wear a color similar (lighter/darker) than the wedding party. Oh boy, shall I proceed to put the dunce cap on my head and sit in the corner? Please ladies, I really need to be schooled on this. My BP is wearing either a burgandy or wine color. Where do I go from here?

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
My girls are wearing black and both mothers are wearing black as well... I never heard they weren't supposed to match or compliment the bridesmaids. If my girls are wearing black, I wouldn't want the mothers in bright colors, JMO

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
Not to downplay the rules of propriety, but IMO at all the weddings I have been to, I cannot remember what the mothers wore. Everyone paid more attention to the bride and groom.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
I did not give my mother or FMIL any rules. There's no way I'm telling them what they can and can't wear. They both ended up picking beautiful dresses.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
I thought it would be nice if the mother's coordinate with eachother and as well as with the BMs. My BMs will be in red and the Mother's will be in a shade of Navy.
My mother hasn't ordered her dress yet, but FMIL was impatient and couldnt' wait to order hers...

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
My only "rule" was that I didnt want the MOG or my Mom to wear the same color as my bridal party - and I really dont want them to wear matching colors (for example I dont want them to both wear the same color blue, etc). Other than that I dont care, and who ever buys their dress first then the other one has to work around that.

That's my thinking, but I think they want rules. well, FMIL at least. She keeps asking if my mom got a dress yet, but I don't even have BM dresses yet, & I told her my mom won't start looking untill the summer. I read somewhere that the lengths should be the same, but that is just too much!
If you are going by the rulesm, the colors should compliment, not match the bridal party & each other. A neutral is fine.

Re: Whats the etiquette on MOB/MOG dresses?
The only rule I had was no white/off white dresses.
I think that as long as the dress color doesn't clash with the wedding/BP colors it should be fine. But, each bride has her own preferences.
