Who is Good with Color?
We just closed on a house and have to paint every room. It is a cape style home and the bedrooms upstairs have that slanted ceiling. So I can not paint the ceilings white. The whole room has to be the same color except the molding. I feel dark colors will make the room look only smaller. I am getting mahogany furniture and my comforter set is off-white/cream color. . Any suggestions on a color beyond white?

Re: Who is Good with Color?
why can't you paint the ceilings white? I would do a white on the ceiling with matching mouldings, then a color on the vertical surfaces.I bought a book called 'remodleing capes' It is a beautiful book. They have great room ideas.

Or you can do a darker version of a color on the walls, and a lighter version of a color on the slanted ceilings...

Re: Who is Good with Color?
I grew up in a Cape so I know the feeling.
If your rooms are anything like mine were, you really want to stay away from painting the ceiling white, otherwise it does look kinda weird (JMO). Maybe your cape is different though.
How about a nice, warm, earthy, yellow? Sage green? Pale sky? Terra Cotta? Any of those with a white trim would be lovely.
Don't necessarily be afraid of color, the bedrooms in my house aren't huge & I painted them medium colors. I think color adds depth to a room.

Re: Who is Good with Color?
I think color makes small rooms feel cozy.I don't think that you need to paint the walls and ceilings the same color, but maybe different shades of the same color would add a bit of depth.

That sounds like a good idea.

Re: Who is Good with Color?
O.K. This is the cocept that I would use. A colored ceiling in the satin finish with flat finish on the walls and semigloss on the trim/mouldings. The satin finish make the ceiling look as if it is 'blurred' creating the illusion of height. I do this combo very often and it works. In my office I have flat ironstone white walls, buttercream semi-gloss wainscotting, crown and trim along with a chalky green ceiling in a satin finish. Behind the raised panel door, which is semi-gloss white, I used the same color on the six raised panels as the ceiling. It works!! I will have Peabody post some pictures so be on the lookout!
