I get tips on my mailbox and I thought I'd share: How to select a wedding veil!!
How To Select a Wedding Veil Elbow Length: Generally used for shorter gowns with out a train and will show off any detailing at the waist of the gown. Used for formal and semi-formal weddings.
Fingertip Length: Can be worn with any gown longer than tea length. It falls right at the fingertips of the bride if her hands are at her side and is used for formal and semi-formal weddings.
Chapel Veil: This veil is three yards long, looks best with a long-sleeved, full-length gown.
Cathedral Length: They are used for formal weddings and generally the veil will extend onto the floor at least six inches past the train. Cathedral length veil looks best when worn with a cathedral or semi-cathedral length gown.
More Veil Tips
The veil should accentuate and be proportional to the dress, not take away from its details. Your veil length should be cut just above or below any focal point on your dress. Don't choose a veil that ends right where your bodice begins. This cuts you in half visually. If you have a sharply defined waistline, don't choose a veil that ends right at the waistline.
Don't choose a short veil that might cover lavish details on the back of a gown if you want them shown off. A longer veil will put emphasis on the details. The tulle is sheer and easier to see through when it is long.
A shoulder or elbow length veil is usually worn with a tea length gown. A fingertip length can be worn with any gown longer than a tea length. A chapel length veil should only be worn with a chapel or cathedral length gown.
As well, a cathedral length veil should only be worn with a chapel or cathedral length gown. Keep in mind that chapel and cathedral length veils can be difficult to maneuver and a fingertip length veil will look just as lovely with a chapel or cathedral length gown.

These are great tips, thanks for posting
however, I don't think they're tips to live by. I'm having an A-line dress w/out a train and the women at Bridal Reflections where I ordered my dress suggested a cathedral length veil and it did look amazing! I'm going w/ it despite the "rules."

I had the same concern, that is why I have two tiers for the ceremony and then I can take off the longer tier during hte reception and just have a fingertip -- its great
