Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

Well we have been engaged since Dec. 02. We never found a place we liked and things came up so we did not book anything. We kept looking and saving and in March 04 we came across a place at a good deal if we booked this August. We have so many OOT guests with kids the summer was better anyway so we decided to do it. Thanks to this site we already knew what vendors we wanted so we were not worried.

Well, everyone was always asking us 'When are you getting married'.....now we finally are and I feel like everyone is annoyed we are doing it so soon. I know it is tough because people like to plan ahead and it is tough for people in the party plannig the shower ect...But I did not think it would be such a big deal. Are we being inconsiderate doing it soon. Financially, we get better deals which so helps when you are doing it yourself. Thanks for letting me vent!

We were only engaged for 7 months. No problems for us....good luck, I'm sure you can do it.

Same here .. we had a 7 month engagement, and really its been much easier than I anticipated. I knew nothing about Long Island (born/raised in Westchester) but still its been a piece of cake. I managed to plan it with little hassle, mostly thanks to this great site!

Once we made the decision in early January to have our wedding July 25, we booked the big things immediately! I wish i could say it was difficult, but it really wasn't. I lucked out and got ALL the vendors I wanted!

Sure I also heard some flack from various friends and relatives about the fact we were 'getting married too soon' (and WHY are you having a wedding in the summer) .. but I got over the negative comments quickly. The HECK with them is my new motto!

It was a personal decision for us .. we simply didn't want a looong engagment, and just wanted to be married this year.

You can and SHOULD do it (if its what you really want) Good Luck!

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

I know its off topic but its so funny felicia that people complained that you were having it in the summer. they complain to me about the winter. I say kiss my a$$ b/c they would probably find a reason to complain if it was spring or fall

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

my cowrker plnned hers in 4 & she had 2 ceremonies.
I think the hardest part for her was findin 2 dresses.

Don't worry about other people. They don't need that much time to plan. they just have to find an outfit, but a gift & show up.

More than enough time! I had a year (with a lot of out of town guests) and it was way too much time. Best of luck to you!

I think it's great! I have had a long engagement and I can tell you that I keep changing my mind over things. I sometimes wish it were shorter so that I could just make final decisions and have to stick to them

Good Luck

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

we did it in 6 months too and on a holiday weekend so we expected a lot of declines. we invited 175 and we are having 144. actually a little more than we thought are coming.

it's been stressful and unfortunately we had to make some decisions fairly quickly without comparison shopping but everything worked out. i'm the type of person that would second guess myself like crazy but i didn't have the time so it saved me all the stress!

sorry some people are giving you grief for that. those people will see when they plan a wedding. lots of advantages doing it quickly.

to be honest....we wouldn't have liked it any other way.

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

We got engaged in March 04 and are getting married in August 04. There were some people who didn't like the 'short' notice, but I say the heck with them.

Once our hall was booked, the rest fell into place really quickly. The one thing that had me a wreck was picking out a dress. Some places wanted to tack on another $300 for a rush order...so I kind of felt like I didn't have time to go to dozens of places and try on dresses. I almost wish I had started looking at dresses months before I got engaged...I knew we were gong to be engaged soon...oh well. I ended up finding a dress, but it was very stressful!

Overall, I'm glad we decided to have a short engagement...only three more months to go!

Thanks ladies
A little reassurance goes a long way. Everyone will always have something to say no matter what choices you make....I just have to remember that!

Mattituckprinces good luck tomorrow at Port Jeff CC....can't wait to hear about it!

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

It never ceases to amaze me what people will say. My sister planned hers in even less time and it all worked out really well. How much lead time, really, do other people need to plan to attend a wedding, unless they are booking plane tickets? Do you usually get a babysitter 6 months in advance?

My one suggestion is to be flexible. If other people are planning showers and parties for you, they may need to have it at home or something, if places are already booked. We are getting married in 6 months and I am just now planning on getting out the STD stuff because we had some issues with the guest list that I wanted to clear up. Don't worry, enjoy it and ignore the comments of others!

8 months here!! Don't worry about what everyone is saying....yes, travelling is expensive and what have you, but if they want to be there, they will be there.

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

I think you have plenty of time. Why don't you call a Bridal consultant and ask them just to put you at ease. I think there are a few that are LIW vendors. Post on vendors helping brides...I'll bet they will all be unanimous in saying you are in good shape. Don't be pressured by people who don't always have your best interests at heart. We BTBs have enough going on without 'well meaning' advice from others. Good luck!! I'm sure your wedding will be fabulous!

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

We got engaged in Feb and the wedding is August 29. That's when the place we wanted was available. And my brother complained because it is a Sunday. So I told him to fork over the extra $4000 site fee + another $5000 or so more expensive for everything on a Saturday, and that shut him up but quick. But hey, he's obnoxious. No one else has complained. They're all glad to get away even just for a weekend.

I have everything booked. You have great bargaining power -- a DJ, Band, Makeup Artist or Photographer who isn't booked in August for your day by now, should give you a great deal since they probably wont get booked this late anyway. USE this bargaining tool -- it works!!!

And don't let anyone rain on your parade. If they don't want to come, it's their loss.

Re: Anyone plan there wedding in 6 months or less???

We're planning ours in 6 months. So far, booking the hall wasn't a problem at all--lots of places still had availability and they were anxious to book because the time was so short. The band was a problem, almost all of them were booked way in advance. The gown was no problem--any shorter than six months, you would need to put a rush on the dress.

But we still don't have photographer and florist. I'm thinking finding a photographer who's free will be tough--they also book far in advance.

So I think it might be a little harder to do, in that you have fewer choices about vendors. But you can totally do it as long as you're flexible.
