Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

We live in Manhattan and wanted to stay in a hotel on our wedding night. However, the Republican National Convention starts the day after my wedding (DAMN REPUBLICANS) and all the hotels are booked or a fortune. FH wants to just stay at home and not spend the money. We re leaving for our honeymoon 5 days after our wedding and are staying in great hotels there.

Anyone else staying at home the night of their wedding?

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

I was originally considering going home after the wedding, because it would have been one less expense we had to worry about. But after choosing my catering hall, the is a hotel literally steps away. I figured since my guests are staying there, we would too. But we arent getting a suite or anything, just a regular room. I see nothing wrong with what you are doing. After such a long day, there's nothing better than being able to sleep in the comfort of you own bed. See if someone can go to you place ahead of time and set up some champagne and petals on your bed to add a nice touch!!

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

It's not uncommon to stay at home on your wedding night. Fortunately, my reception is at a hotel so I'm staying there for the night but you can think of it this way: What better way to consummate your marriage but in your own home and your own bed!

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

At first I wanted to stay at a nice hotel on the wedding night, but I think we're just going to go home and celebrate.

A bottle of champagne and some dessert...because I know we'll be starving!

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

I was going to to go home, but my girls and I are all getting ready at my house so I really don't want to go there because I'm sure the place will look like a disaster hit it. Plus my mom said if Idon't stay there she would come by sunday morning and clean up. YEAH!!!!!

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

If the wedding was close to home we would have stayed at home, but since it's in LI and we're leaving from JFK in the morning it didn't make sense to go home.

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

I am running into the same issue with the Republican convention. I am even considering booking all of my FI family - who all live in the city - Lower manhattan in a hotel in Long Island, so they won't have to bother with traveling in and out of the city that weekend. AAARGHHH, but we will not be staying in a hotel, we live in Queens and live together so we will go back to our place and just relax then off to the HM three days later.

Re: Anyone staying at home on their wedding night?

As of right now the plan is to go home. We'll have a bottle of champagne and the hundreds of boxes of desserts from the vienesse hour to munch on. We're not leaving for our honeymoon until about two days after so no point in staying in a hotel for us. I look at it this way - hotel, home - no big difference - all that matters is that we're married and together that night!

We stayed home on our wedding night and it was great! We had some champagne, opened some gifts and just went over the whole day and night.

I am planning on staying in a hotel that night - figuring that my bridal party and out of town guests will be there.
