Since people are talking of childhood memories.. Who here was a Military Brat????

I was a Squid Kid (Navy)

Moved all the time. Dad was a mechanic for aircrafts on aircraft carriers
Kitty Hawk
Lexington
Enterprise

All my memories are of moving!!! Being a Girl Scout was tough!! haha

I was ALWAYS the new kid in school and being with two different colored eyes and thick unruly hair and big thick glasses I HATED it!

Was so glad when Dad left the Navy when I was 9. Still didnt really settle down until I was 11.

People take childhood friendships and other details like schools and school teachers for granted. I don't have anything like that.

Anyone else??

Re: Since people are talking of childhood memories.. Who here was a Military Brat????

I was an Air Force Brat. My dad was in accounting (Comptroller).

I always went to the school on the base, so everyone was used to new kids coming in. But I hear you with the childhood friend thing. People look at me oddly when I say that I don't have any friends from further back than high school.

My brother and I are very close since we were always each other's playmate when we moved somewhere new.

I moved to LI when I was 15 and it took me a VERY long time to realize that I wouldn't be moving again. I really liked getting to see so much of the country.

I still get anstyif I dont move every few years...Ive lived in NJ longer than I lived anywhere else and thats 9 years, almost 10!!! But now Im obsessed with when we buy a house..I want to live in it forever!! I dont wnat to keep moving. I was able to maintain long term friendhsips with two close friends from the 6th grade...but moving around was difficult on keeping friends...but I do keep in touch with c lose friend from high school ( Oklahoma) and the rest of my friends are from my years of living in NJ.

I hear ya... I have calmed the 'I MUST MOVE' thing but I still must travel.

Lived in:
Cuba
Virgina
Texas
California
Small hop to Hawaii but nothing worth bragging about *shrug* too short

Every single year i travel to a place I've never been before. I started this when I was 18. All by myself just traveled. I've now been to 22 of the lower 48 states.

Dad couldnt retire. He had to leave to take care of us. I know he still thinks he got gipped but it was the right thing to do. He was so close too. Served in Vietnam as well.

My brother served in Desert Storm (round 1) - Navy hehe.

Wow! 22 of the lower 48? That's cool! I will have to try to figure out how many I've seen. DH and I went to Alaska on our honeymoon. It was beautiful! Not like anywhere else I've seen.
