Re: how much does it cost to add a bathroom? or add a second floor?

I don't have exact quotes but I can tell you what some of my neighbors paid

For the 2nd floor, some did 1/2 of the floor which several years ago cost about $30,000 (they add 2 bedrooms and a bath). Probably took a couple of months
Then for a full floor (4 bedrooms and a bath) it was about 60,000 - again these prices are for several years back.
It depends on contractors, materials, etc.

We just redid one of our bathrooms and I know that cost about $4,000 just for tile, tub, sink, toilet, fixtures, etc. Luckily my FIL did the work himself.

Re: how much does it cost to add a bathroom? or add a second floor?

This is such a difficult question to answer b/c there are so many variables. We have looked into both.

Bathroom: cost factors:
Are you adding a bathroom within the existing fame of your home?
Are you going to install the bathroom your self?
Do you have to order any fixtures or cabinetry?
The size of your room may affect your cost.

Once you have all the pieces, the actual installation can take 1-3 days depending on how involved the project is [ex: is the new room near existing plumbing?], but the time frame depends on the availibility of your professionals.

Adding a 2nd floor: cost factors:
Price depends on size and how much you need the professionals to do.
Will you get a shell or a completed floor?

Adding a floor may take a few months b/c there is so much involved and your town may take 4-6 weeks just to approve your plans.

Once you get the the actual 'building' part. It doesnt take too long - just a few weeks (depending on how much work they are doing inside). The old roof comes off and the 2nd floor is framed w/in the 1st week.
