Paying $8000 for band - do I need to tip?
I know this has been posted before but would really like some opinions on my situation! I have a 12 piece band although two people manage the band. I'm paying $8,000 for 5 hours. Do I have to tip everyone? If so, how much? I feel this is A LOT of money to spend on a band but I don't want to piss them off by not tipping. Help!!!

Re: Paying $8000 for band - do I need to tip?
That is ALOT of money!
But I think the etiquette of a tip remains no matter how much the initial cost is. Sorry.

8000 is a lot, but I agree it seems you should tip something...

Re: Paying $8000 for band - do I need to tip?
I think you should tip vendors if they do more than their usual job - if a singer learns new songs for you etc. I don't think people should be tipped for simply doing their job. You hired them in spite of their high price because of their quality and I don't think they need or expect additional compensation. Sometimes vendors' contracts mention tipping and if you agree to that when you sign their contract then you are required to tip.

We fed them but didn't tip them...you don't HAVE to do anything. It's up to you.

Re: Paying $8000 for band - do I need to tip?
YES!!! you should tip and feed all of them unless they say you do not have to feed themit is courtesy
that is why bands are so much more
we have a 9 piece band and are paying almost just that.. it comes with booking a band
our band does not require us to feed them but how could we not.. put yourself in their place.... they will probably eat at the cocktail hour but still have to pay 1/2 for vendors which will be about $80 (9 people in the band)

I'm not sure what we are doing yet. But I wanted to mention that one of the photographers we went to see made a good point. The photographer is with you all day, it would be horrible not to feed them. The band is typically only with you for 4 hours. They can eat beforehand. That made me think. Like I said, I don't know what we are going to do yet, however, I don't really think the band is that inconvenienced if they are not fed. Just a thought.

That is a lot of $....I just started looking at bands and asking about tipping. They manager said that it is not necessary because the band is paid very well.

I think you should feed them and tip them. I would have a stomache ache if I didn't eat withing 4 hours. Where would you get the energy to sing?I just think it's best to do both. How much you tip is up to you.

mostly everyone I know feeds the band, they don't tip them , you are spending alot on them, but you have to do what you feel.

Re: Paying $8000 for band - do I need to tip?
who are the people who manage the band? are they actual band members as in 2 of the 12 playing for you that day?if the 2 people manage the band and do not play, i believe the band members may be expecting a tip. if the 2 people who manage the band actually own the 'company', then i would guess the tip is included in the price.
our band leader is the 'manager' of his band. i have yet to decided whether or not i will tip all of them. i have allocated $$$ to do so, but will make the determination after they have played my wedding. from what i hear, tipping $20-50 per band member is considered 'reasonable'. i guess it depends on the overall cost and quality of service.
ETA: for me, feeding is a given...
