hair straightening question

I have thick curly hair and would die to have straight hair...so I'm thinking about getting it chemically straightened. I read in a magazine that you can get your hair straightened and having it last for 6 months. Does anyone in here know about this, or has gotten your hair straightened? I occasionally straighten my hair with a flat iron, but it takes an hour and curls when it gets wet again, but I would love for it to be naturally straight! Suggestions welcome!! TIA!

Re: hair straightening question

Yes, many hair salons do this - it takes HOURS to do and it FRIES your hair. But it definitely does work. My hairstylist doesn't reccommend it but he said if someone gets it done, to make sure they go to a reputable salon with lots of experience. Also, it's super expensive (several hundred dollars) and then you have to keep doing it because when it grows in, it looks funny with the top all kinky and the bottom straight.

Re: hair straightening question

Hey,
I get mine done at a salon in oceanside by a woman my mom has been going to for 15 years, shes' amazing, she doees both Japanese and regular chemical straightening. I don't do the Japanese, because of the price, time, and honestly I feel it makes your hair flat. She uses a prodcut on me called Yellow, its imported from Italy. Its amazing and lasts, I have very very curly hair, and do this process once a year, and it won't kill your hair believe me, just make it easier to blow dry straight....The Salon is called Montage in Oceanside, Karen is the owner and does it for me, but I think others do it there as well. It costs like 200 bucks I think, not bad at all for what you get.

Thanks

Re: hair straightening question

Hi,

I had the Japanese straightening treatment done last April (2003) and only now do I feel that I need to get it done again. It really lasts a long time and my hair was not fried nor was it flat. In fact, I color my hair as well and I've never had any problems. The downside is that it is very pricey. I highly recommend the woman who did mine...her name is Victoria and she is located at Salon Deja Vu in Queens. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Donna

Re: hair straightening question

i have been getting my hair japanese thermal conditioning for 3 years now. ive had it done 5 times and love it!!!!!! if you want straight hair i would get it done. i could never live without it. i had really curly, frizzy thick hair and now its still thick, but never frizzy and straight all the time- no matter what. i get it done for $350 from an amazing guy in the city. it does not fry your hair at all! in fact may hair has never been more shinier and healthy feeling. its not a chemical, and you never get the process done to the same hair twice- you only touch up the roots when they grow in. you can color your hair 2 weeks after and 2 weeks before the process. i heavily suggest it. my whole family has gotten it done, all my friends and their freidns

Re: hair straightening question

Wow, thank you ladies so much for all your help and input! I'm really interested in this and your comments just puched me in that direction!

dbcrosby ~ Do you mind sharing the info of the place you get it done? You said you've gotten it done 5 times, so I'm assuming you trust those people! I would love to get all their info and possibly set up a consultation. Just question, will I ever get my curl back? Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Re: hair straightening question

i dont know if you have tried this yet, but there is a fantastic flat iron called the infrashine that works great. its about 100 bucks, but totally worth it if you dont want to spend the money on the japanese straightening.

Re: hair straightening question

Hey ladies.....I got it done and it's amazing! Totally worth the money. I wake up with straight hair, come out of the shower with straight hair, and I even got my hair styled with some cute bangs! No more frizzy curls.
