Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

We decided not to buy so now we are looking for an apartment. Either near Nassau/Suffolk border or in Suffolk. Our dog is 12 years old and about 20 lbs.
Please help... everything I see in Newsday says no pets

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

Have you looked into any apartment complexes? I know some allow pets for a small additional monthly fee.

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

If you feel like you are out of options... find a broker and have them find you an apartment. You will probably have to pay a fee... but if all else fails... this is your only other option.

Apartment rentals that allow pets (dogs) are few and far between... unfortunately.

I don't know where to begin!

Do any of you know any complexes that accept pets?

I will try a broker as a last resort.

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

Friends of ours live (but are moving this week to a house!!) in a complex in Oakdale (Suffolk County). They have a dog as do many othersin the complex. It's on West Shore Drive and Montauk Highway).

There is a nice apt complex in Lake Grove on Hawkins Ave that accepts pets.

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

The Fairfield Complexes accept pets--dogs are an additional $35 a month for most I believe. Look at apartments.com. Also there are a couple on Sunrise Highway that we looked at--both accepted pets for an additional monthly fee of about $50. FM me if you want me to find the info--one was about $1300, the other $1500 I believe, but very nice, CAC, own washer and dryer, etc.

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

I live in a Fairfield apartment and I think they all allow dogs. I would say about 70% of the people in my complex have a pet including myself.

We love it here but it is expensive. Good luck!!!

Not sure if this is the same one but my mom lives in Lake Grove apartments and they allow pets, even large dogs. My mom's neighbor had a golden retriever.

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

Julie, here is a link I did on rent.com for with the selection of 'Dog OK'...most complexes have either a weight limit or a breed limit...I think you'll be successful with Gizmo! I also based it on Lake Grove which is in Suffolk County

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

Usually the garden apartments are the ones that are ok with pets not the private homes.

Re: Looking for apartment that will allow a small dog.

also try condo rentals. A very good friend of mine lives in a nice condo in Smithtown ( I know it is pretty far east) but htey allowed her dog at oly $25 more a month.. They also made her sign in her lease that she would be responsible for the immediate wastre removal and that any damage done to her lawn would be at her cost. that's pretty standard though.

Good luck.
