Re: Okay, so whats the deal with the Cicadas?

Yeah I think because they only come once every 17 years. In Boston they have 19 year ones and I think they come out in 2006 or 2008. And they are kinda big, about 1 inch in length and 1/2 inch in width and the wings are like 2 or 3 inches and they all come out of the ground at once so it's like a swarm of them at once. They're harmless but kinda spooky looking when it's 100's of them at once so I can see why people are making a fuss over it. Eek! They kinda freak me out myself.

According to Newsday the other day..
apparently even though the are hideous...they are harmless.
They don't bite but if they land on ya the can scratch.
They last a month
DOGS are attracted to them!
they taste peanut like LOLOLOLOLOL

Re: Okay, so whats the deal with the Cicadas?

I just came back from a trip to Virginia and let me tell you they were EVERYWHERE!!!! Tons of them. I was actually afraid to go out because a few flew into my head, gross. I hope we do not get them as bad here.

Also, just as a warning for those with cats and dogs. You need to be careful because cicadas have a hard exoskeletal shell that the animals have a hard time digesting, so make sure you watch your pets.

Re: Okay, so whats the deal with the Cicadas?

They are gross looking but harmless. It brings me back to when I was a kid in Texas. So Nostalgic. They make this loud humming sound. I haven't seen them here in NY yet.
