Re: dj/video/photographer advice

I don't know if any of them know the grounds, but I could share info... :)

A great DJ is Variety Music. We have heard them before at weddings and other events and they have always done a great job. They are a vendor on here.

As for photographers and videographers, we checked out a bunch!

Proline Studios in Huntington was great for both photos and video. We were very close to using them but decided to go with another company. Prices are pretty reasonable.

Jefferey Studios in Nesconset was also great for both, although not quite as good as Proline. Prices were slightly higher.

Duet in Huntington was great pricewise but we were not that impressed with their phtotography, although their video was verygood.

Lavender Studios in North Massapequa was not bad... photos were similar to everyone elses and prices were reasonable. You get 'previews' instead of proofs, but not as many as most places. Didn't get to see their video.

Twelfth Night in Mineola... we are going with them. We loved Dominics work and the idea of putting together our album afterwards, and ourselves... only problem is we need a videographer!

On Point Productions in North Massapequa... a guy who pretty much works alone I think. Great work and great prices but he seems a little unaware of how to present himself well (he was wearing sweats and a sweater when we met with him).

Hope any of this helps-- good luck! I know finding the photographer was the hardest part for us... we still have to decide on a videographer! :)

Jennie

We're using Starlight Express for our DJ. They've gotten rave reviews and they're super nice and very professional.

Re: dj/video/photographer advice

Duet studios, have great prices and very creative. Their work is unbelievable and creative, less traditional. They give you 2 days of shooting - a casual day and the wedding day. The casual day, you go out to Manhattan and make a music video. Way cool!!! Eric the video guy use to be a director for commercials and extremely creative, definitely has an eye for this stuff. They also give you 2 photographer and they each have 2 cameras each. One guy does candids and one traditional. Seriously check them out.

Re: dj/video/photographer advice

Well my first bit of advice is to look at the vendors that are suggested by East Wind b/c you mentioned you want someone who is familiar with your hall.

I booked Bravura for DJ and Duet for photo/video.

Re: dj/video/photographer advice

I also checked out a bunch of photographers. Depending on what your looking for, I would look and make my own judgement.

Patkin Photography - I really liked their work. They were extremely contemporary, and their prices were a bit high, but well worth it. Video was extremely expensive for 1/2 an hour DVD.

Silverfox - Everything was ala carte. Doing the math, it would have come slightly over our budget. But their work was really good, and the owner John was a pleasure to meet.

12th night - The pictures were beautiful!!!!!! Dominic has a really good eye. But I didnt like the idea of doing all the work myself. Im lazy and I'd rather pay for someone to do the albums.

Perception Photography - I had a big to-do with the receptionist. Very rude. I canceled the appointment.

We ultimately fell in love with Duet. The prices were right, the pics were right, and the video nearly had me in tears.

Good luck and if you have any questions FM me!!

Re: dj/video/photographer advice

I dont have it in the contract, but Eric told me after the wedding was done, if I wanted to upgrade I could just pay the difference to get the soho book. Im hoping we dont spend a fortune on the honeymoon so I can get that album!! My favorite part was the fact that unlike the other studios I talked my way into A LOT of free things. With anyone else they wanted to charge me!!

Re: dj/video/photographer advice

Yeah me too. I got some extras also. Eric was so flexable and so sweet. He just wanted to make us happy. And not into ripping you off just because its a wedding. Did you get the postcard thank you's? How cute.

Re: dj/video/photographer advice

For the grounds...Tommy tunes is a house vendor and ADA is a house video/photo vendor...but there must be more as well..I know the Watermill has two of each ( dj, limo, photo) Ask them and meet with the perferred vendors first before you choose..
