Bridal gown dress sizes

Why is it that if your a size 6 in normal clothes you fit into a size 10 wedding dress?? i don't understand this logic!!!!. Why do the makers make the dress so small?

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

Bridal gown size charts haven't been changed in MANY years to reflect the change in women's bodies. Also, they order your dress according to your largest measurement and then alter anything that's too big. I'm actually nervous that they ordered my dress too small. I'm roughly a size 6 in normal clothes and they ordered me a size 8. I'm in the process of getting my friends measurements so we can order the BM dresses and looking at the size chart for B2, they should have ordered me a 12-14 to compensate for my hips. My dress better not come in too small! I guess since it's a ball gown they figured there would be plenty of room for my hips and a$$!

Which dress maker are you talking about.?

I can fit into a size 6/8 regular clothing. But, in my dress it is a size 10 and it is way too tight!!!

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

I was told they were junior, sizes, but htat was probably to make me feel better btu I didn't care.
I expected it to be a bigger size. They ordered me a 16. I as a 12 at the time, but am more like a 14 now, so I am worried the dress won't fit. The measuremtns they took mathc the size chart for a 16 exactly, except for the boobs, they would be an 18! So, I don't know how they are supposed to get in this dress, but that's what the lady ordered!

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

Same here. Mine was ordered WAY over what I wear...it's very annoying. I'm just hoping I'm not swimming in it when I get to try it on.

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

I have to say this is one of the most frustrating things about shopping for wedding gowns! It makes you feel so bad mentally, even though you know that you are NOT that size!

Maggie Sottero gowns are a little truer to regular size, since the corset back alows for some 'adjusting' This way a few pounds here or there won't really matter, since you can loosen or tighten the back

I ordered my maggie dress in a 10, and I normally wear a 6 on top and a 8-10 on bottom (I'm your classic pear shape). But due to the fullness of my gown's skirt, I knew that the size 10 was the best fit for me, though at the salon they would have ordered me a 12 due to my hip measurements! I ordered it from netbride so I ordered what I thought was best. And as it turns out, i've lost some weight since ordering the gown and while my dress is little loose on top, otherwise it is perfect.

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

I am a size 4-6 depending on the cut. Normally in a dress cut like my wedding dress I would be a 4. I had to order a 10 and what made it worse was that it fit me almost perfectly.

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

I know...I totally flipped out when I started trying on dresses...I am a size 4 and in dresses the 8 was a little too small and the 10 a little too big...so I got the 10 and will have it altered. I think that its europeon sizes????

Re: Bridal gown dress sizes

I was a size 10 in my Maggie Sottero even though I am usually a 6 or 8. My measurements were all weird compared to the size chart but a 10 was the best.
