Formal or Black Tie Optional? 11:00AM wedding

I have to order my invitations on Monday, it's getting late!!!! I am not sure what to put on the invitations. We are getting married at the Crest Hollow but the invite is for 11:00 am, Early!!. I think that suits and cocktail dresses or tea length gowns would be fine, but I don't know how to state it on the invite. I think people should know that the Crest Hollow is by no means a casual place but I have some out of towners coming. Help!!!

Re: Formal or Black Tie Optional? 11:00AM wedding

If you really want it formal, but not black tie, state 'Formal reception to follow.'

Black tie is inappropriate for a day time wedding, IMO. Are you really worried that people will dress casually? A day time wedding wouldn't necessarily say 'gown' to me, but if you don't mind summer dresses and people who will wear skirts and tops, just state 'reception to follow.'

No matter what you do, you'll never be able to dictate the way your guests dress. Can you have someone tell the OOTers that it's not casual?

IMO, I really don't think black tie or black tie optional are appropriate on a wedding invitation for 11am. I'm sure that if you don't specify anything, men will know to wear suits and women will wear cocktail dresses. Good luck!

I agree that black tie is not appropriate for an early wedding, but I disagree that women will know to wear a cocktail dress. I think you should put 'formal reception to follow.'

Re: Formal or Black Tie Optional? 11:00AM wedding

Formal Reception to Follow sounds like a good idea, it lets them know that the reception is formal, but black tie is not necessary by any means. Thank you again girls.

Re: Formal or Black Tie Optional? 11:00AM wedding

I was informed by the vendor that is ordering my invites that for a 11:00 wedding, you shouldn't put/or has not seen any dress requirements on the invitation. The fact that it is not obviously a casual wedding - location and invitation isn't casual - it is not appropriate etiquette to state formal attire on the invite. It should be word of mouth. But then again, you can put whatever you want on the invite.
