not trying to ttc but want to start charting my ovulation time

when do you begin counting. from the first day of your period or the first day after it's over? and how many days (on average) after you start couting does one ovulate?

Thanks.

Re: not trying to ttc but want to start charting my ovulation time

I believe it is the day that you start your period that you begin counting. If you have a 28 day cycle, you would ovulate around day 14.

I didn't chart, but I assumed that I was ovulating on day 14, and I was not according to the OPT that I took, I actually ovulated on day 10!!

Re: not trying to ttc but want to start charting my ovulation time

the first day of your period is day one and you count until you get it again. That is your cycle.....my last 2 have been around the 35 day mark (I'm off the pill for 2 months, so I'm still adjusting I guess). Cycles can be between 28-36 days...and even more or less than that.

Re: not trying to ttc but want to start charting my ovulation time

I highly recommend the book 'taking charge of your fertility'

I know its been mentioned on here before and I finally read it.

It really explains how your cycle works, how to chart if you want to chart, and some popular misconceptions that even we educated women have.

for example, we all know that sometimes when we are under stress our period is delayed.

BUT, I learned that its not the period thats delayed, its the ovulation... once you ovulate your period will come about 12-14 days later (depending on the woman).

This is important if you are TTC, because you need to know when you are ovulating to appropriately time the 'deed'.

So, the day your period begins is day 1. An average (but variable) number of days to ovulation is 14. Then again, and average, but less variable amount of days till your next period is 14. This is where they get the standard 28 days, but that first part between your period and ovulation can vary, and many women mistime the deed if they are early or late ovulators. so charting your CM and temperature helps detect your ovulations times.

Re: not trying to ttc but want to start charting my ovulation time

I SECOND this book! TCOYF taught me soo many things that I did not know. I now use the computer software called Ovusoft to chart. If you buy the software (30 bucks I think) there is a great board that you can join that has a 15 thousand members. It is great!
