Are there any good resources on information on buying a house?

I just want to read up on the whole process, like getting a mortgage, appraisal, etc etc.

I don't know anything about house buying and don't want to fall into any traps!

Something tailored to NY State.

Also, are there specific rules in buying a house specific to NY?
