Cake Card Holder/Birdcage - where does it go?

For those who are having a cake cardholder or birdcage to collect cards from your guests... where does it go at the reception? We have the Lillian Vernon cake cardholder, but I'm unsure how to 'place' it.

Is it set up on a special table, and the guests just deposit the cards themselves? OR do you collect the cards and put them in there yourselfs.

Also, does anyone have pics of how this 'table' might be decorated so its pretty (i.e., card holder with some flowers, candles, etc?)

I'm trying to figure out how I want this set up at the reception .........

Someone posted today her sister's wedding picture. She posted one with a table setup for gifts and she had a frame with pictures where they put the cards.....let me find it....

My friend had one and it was behind her sweetheart table (and a little to the left so it didnt show in pictures)
