Ladies- who's ever been recommended to see an endocrinologist?

Sorry if this is TMI --

Has anyone ever been referred to see an endocrinologist by their ob/gyn?

I recently had some extensive blood test done by my gyno to check out my hormones and the like -- now it seems the results from the lab came back and I have 'elevated levels' in some specific areas (testosterone, DHEA, etc) ... I've now been recommended by my gyno to see an endocrinologist for further evalulation.

Has anyone ever been to an endocrinologist? And if so, what type of blood tests (or other tests) do they perform that my gyno cannot do?

I cannot get an appiontment to see the specialist until mid-August , and I really don't want to wait and worry about it with the wedding in 2 weeks!

Bottom line - SHOULD I be worried? My gyno said there is nothing to be highly concerned about, but of course I'm concerned something is really wrong and stressing about why this stuff came back wacky!

TIA

Re: Ladies- who's ever been recommended to see an endochrinologist?

I go to an endochrinologist because I have a underactive thyroid. In my case I dont ovulate and I need medication to bring my period and im on Synthroid (this is supposed to boost my metabolism)

Me too, except I'm still waiting for that metabolism boost : )

I used to do editing for an endocrinology journal, and from what I remember, most hormonal problems respond very well to medication.

Re: Ladies- who's ever been recommended to see an endocrinologist?

thanks for the info ladies

In my case I've ALWAYS had horribly irregular cycles -- its been that way my entire life since I was a teenager. I used to go 6-8 months at a time without a period, then immediately back to normal -- ALl these years I had blood work done regularly and was told nothing was wrong in that dept.

I used to keep my periods regulated by staying on the Pill -- but last year I developed horrible migraines and other side-effects to them (as well as the patch), so I've been off all forms of BC for awhile.

Ever since then, my cycles are very spread apart on their (like 40 days or longer).. even though the past 2 months they've been early!! (I was told that was prob. due to stress)

So definitely something wacky must be going on, and the results of these tests showed something. I guess the best case scenario that could happen is that they regulate my hormone levels with medication... hopefully nothing worse

I never went on the pill with all the side effects.
