We had an offer accepted on a house in Mount Sinai... and I bounced it off a RE agent in my moms office... she said that suffolk county 's north shore is a cancer cluster. As if the ridiculous prices for the crap on the market isn't enough!

We are looking in this area and have heard similar things from many different sources. It's scary. I believe it. But I still want to live there.

Yeah that is true - I saw a map online that had pretty much all of suffolk and most of nassau as '15-45%' above normal for cancer.

Is that near Brookhaven National Lab? Is that out there? Often clusters are reported near things like this. I think there is an autism cluster in NJ near where chemicals are dumped...one possible cause for it.

Pretty scary considering my mom grew up in PJS and has cancer and my grandfather who lives there was just diagnosed with prostate cancer.

What school district is your house in? Miller Place? I saw a house (brand new) in Sound Beach that looked beautiful but it was in the Rocky Point School District which I don't know much about. Great area though. Congrats!

Yes, it is near Brookhaven. I'm so freaked out now. Maybe I should just stay put in Oakdale.

From what I understand, the entire island has an increased rate of cancer.....i wouldn't put off buying a house in a different area because of it.....
