Low-carb breakfast ideas? (Not eggs)

I am trying to watch the carbs, but all the diets I've looked at (Atkins, South Beach) have nothing but eggs and egg dishes for breakfast. I just can't get into eggs and need some ideas. Of course, an idea for eggs in which they don't come out so...egg-y would be welcome too. Thanks!

Re: Low-carb breakfast ideas? (Not eggs)

I was doing body for life for a while and you were supposed have 1 portion protein, 1 portion quality carbs at each meal. I used to have two scrambled egg whites on whole wheat toast most mornings. Others I would have plain oatmeal instead of the toast. If I was pressed for time, I would jsut make myself a little sandwich--turkey or ham on whole wheat bread. It's not exactly breakfast...but it worked.

I would watch the cereal though. Cereal usually requires milk and that's just extra carbs!

Re: Low-carb breakfast ideas? (Not eggs)

How about yogurt? Or does that have too much sugar? I tried Dannon's Low Carb yogurt today and it's not bad.

Or cheese? It doesn't have to be 'breakfast food' and it will give you variety.

How about egg whites instead of whole eggs?

If you don't mind the carbs (the good ones of course) you can have whole wheat bread and butter, or whole wheat cereal (has to be at least 3 or 4 grams of fiber though to be beneficial I believe).

Polaner now makes sugar free jams and fruit spreads. They are sweetened with Splenda.

Re: Low-carb breakfast ideas? (Not eggs)

Thanks ladies! I appreciate it. For some reason I didn't even think of yogurt! I have tried one of the low-card yogurts (Dannon, I think?) and it was pretty good.

Thanks again!

What about egg salad??? I sometimes eat Ham and cheese roll-ups. And the Atkins morning bars aren't bad.

Actually, Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein and no carbs!!! It's great with some fruit or on rice cakes.

Re: Low-carb breakfast ideas? (Not eggs)

I eat all natural peanut butter on Rice cakes.
Also try cottage cheese. I can't eat cottage cheese too much, my stomach gets funny.

Also try Greek yogurt, get the fat free or low fat. It is sooooo creamy! I put a little bit of splenda or equal in it to kill the sourness.

Re: Low-carb breakfast ideas? (Not eggs)

DUH! I almost forgot. I have been drinking Designer protein(whey) every morning for about 7 years!

It isn't delicious, but it does the job. 1.5 scoops in water.

Have that with some cereal, or a half of a bagel.

also, I but high protein, low sugar cerel. You can get that at trader joes, I think, but I do mail order by the case. It is caller Hi-low. Made with soy protein, and a little whey.
