What would you do with your Steel Drum Band if your wedding was changed to November and you were no longer having an outdoor cocktail hour?
I already paid my steel drum band a deposit and owe a couple hundred more, but now that my wedding plans have been completely rearranged I feel like it doesn't go with my new setting or season. Would you still use them and hope that the weirdness of a steel drum band in an indoor setting in November comes across as cool (laughing at myself here), or do I see if they can perform some Christmas songs (to make it more seasonal) or do I just cancel them all together and lose my deposit? What would you do? Your thoughts are appreciated.

I think that having a steel drum band perform Christmas songs during your cocktail hour would be different, unique, and AWESOME! I would LOVE THAT if I went to a wedding! Definitely a pleasant suprise!

i think you should keep them!! i actually love the idea! it will be eclectic and unique, and lend a "warm" feel to a wedding in a cooler month.

i think if you don't use them for your wedding use them for another day and have a Happily Married BBQ in the summer and have them play there that would be awesome as well

Hey Danielle,
First off I think you should do whatever makes you happy and not worry about what other people will think or dont think at the wedding.
Personally I think it would be something different and it would look very nice. Why loose money if you dont have to. And I think they can play what ever music, christmas or not, that you want them to play. Just because it is indoors now doesnt take away from the whole feel of the steel drum band. Your original plan for the band should not have to change just because it is now indoors.
good luck corrin

Thanks Corrin. I honestly don't know how I feel about the situation. I went to the Carltun with my mom the other day and I was sitting in the cocktail room and I just could not see a steel drum band in that setting in November. If I had been booked there all along in November I never would have hired a steel drum band, I would have gone a totally different route. But I am not losing that deposit and then hiring another form of live entertainment, so basically it is steel drums or DJ music. I just think hearing Calypso style music might be really weird in that setting, but I think I am going to take my chances. I really am not worried about what others will think, but I am worried about what I am going to think when I hear "Hot, Hot, Hot" blasting through the Carltun! LOL. Should be interesting.
