U2-second leg of their 2001 Elevation tour when they 'came back' to New York after 9/11...I can't even think about it without getting emotional.
ETA: Also at MSG

Re: QOTD: What is the best live musical performance you have ever attended?
I can't only pick one
Ok, I have been to over 125 'real' concerts, and thousands of stage performances....not to mention operas, musicals and concerts in the park....How can only choose one?
Hmmm. OK Queen at Wembley Stadium, England in 1985 (I think)

Hmmm.....good question.Broadway - I would say Wicked. I saw the opening previews and literally got chills when the 1st act ended. Pitch perfect from both leads.
Concert - just saw Prince the other night and he was amazing. But I would have to say Garth Brooks. Totally not my kind of music, I was only there because I took my little sister who was a big fan. By the end of the night I was a fan too. I think that's the mark of a truly great performer.

Wow. This isn't an easy question at all! I'd have to say Depeche Mode at Madison Square Garden in... I guess it was 1988. Not only do DM put on a fantastic show, but this concert just captures a moment for me (just before high school, finding my first 'real' boyfriend, having lots of little black-clad goth friends, that sort of thing.)

Picking one is very hard since I have been to so many concerts. But if I have to choose one, I will go with the Rolling Stones at MSG.

Re: QOTD: What is the best live musical performance you have ever attended?
I'm not a huge Billy Joel fan (I like some of music, but am not passionate about it..) However when I went to see him in the early 90s on New Year's Eve at Nassau Colisseum .. I was amazed at how awesome he was live.Actually most of my favorite concerts were when I was a pre-teen or teenager .. I was a little hair band/metal freak and loved seeing Def Leppard, Motley Crue, and Whitesnake ..

Best live musical performance on Broadway was anytime I went to see Les Miz .. and I saw it about 10 times!!

Ok, alright, I am going to choose. I've been thinking for like ten minutes about this. They've all been awesome, but the award must go to.............New Kids on the Block. HA! Just kidding, it would definitely be Nirvana at Roseland when I was a wee tot, all of 13 years old.

Re: QOTD: What is the best live musical performance you have ever attended?
Thought I'd jump in on this.I'd have to say the absolute best performance ever was System of a Down at Jones Beach bout 2 years ago. Simply a great performance, I couldn't talk for days because my voice was so hoarse.
Best 'entertaining' performance would be Kiss at Jones Beach last year. Those guys will blow up anything for applause. ;)
I've seen Metallica 3 or 4 times as well and they always put on a good show. Korn too.

My best concert was my first concert ever. Madonna in 1985
We were so young but had such an amazing time!! She is such a great performer!! I belive it was at Radio City. Everyone came clad in their lace and black bracelets!! I miss the 80's.

I saw that too. It was excellent, but I think my favorite is a toss up between Pearl Jam at Randall's Island in the rain in 96 or Tom Petty at Jones Beach in 99.
Tom Petty has a great energy & love of music that it is entertaining even if you have never heard of him before.
And the Pearl Jam show was great b/c of the setting & their energy & connection witht he audience ( more so than a later Jones Beach show)
I picked those of the 2 REM shows I have goneto b/c although they are my favotire, I don't know how much it translates to people that are not die hard fans, the way the other 2 did.

Re: QOTD: What is the best live musical performance you have ever attended?
I have to say Depeche Mode also (both times i saw them). Dh wasn't a fan and was actually not looking forward to taking me... he left there a huge fan!!!He loves the 'Magic Ball' song. LMAO! he thought 'waiting for the night to fall' was 'waiting for the magic ball', didn't help that the screen had a water drop thing going on. i still laugh at him!
REM, Live, Tori Amos and Trisha Yearwood are up there too! Trisha puts on a great concert. talks a lot to the fans (but not too much taht it takes away from her songs).
I hate when singers don't talk to the fans at all.
(its hard to choose one)
