Whats your best sports experience ever?

I am a huge Cal Ripken fan... my family decided to take a ride down to Baltimore to go to Camden Yards (against the Yanks)... and since I WENT to see Ripken, he didn't play! Broke the streak that night... I was disappointed not to see him but what an amazing experience and such a huge part of baseball history! :)

Second would be meeting my favorite Yankee, Jim Leyrtiz.

I'm working on meeting Ripken too! He's going to be at the Hall of Heroes as well... but

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

I can remember, clear as day, sitting in my living room in Queens and watching the Mets win game 7 of the 1986 WS, I was just 10 yrs old and it was the greatest feeling in the world, I loved that team so much!...I remember running into the street screaming like a lunatic with a pot in my hand and a wooden spoon and beating it as hard as I could! I'm getting goose bumps just remembering it!

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

Ha ha - I lived in Baltimore @ the time of the 'streak' and I was at '2131'!!!! I think this would be my best sports experience. 2nd would be @ the Ryder Cup and watching Michael Jordan, Elway and Mario cheer on Tiger . I then shook MJ's hand!

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

I forget what year it was, maybe 2000. We were at a Mets game, they were playing Atlanta and it was fireworks night. They were losing 8-0 bottom of the 7th. The pitcher walked in 8 runs and then Piazza came up and hit a 3 run homer. They won the game 11-8. It was amazing, the fans were going crazy!!!!

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

Watching a game of the 1996 World Series (I don't remember which game it was, but I remember that Bernie Williams hit a monster home run) with some homeless guys on First Avenue. Seriously. Someone had put an old TV out on the sidewalk, and a bunch of homeless guys and passersby just stood and stared and cheered the Yankees together. Amazing experience.

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

Winning 500 scratch lottery tickets for shooting pucks on the ice at MSG in between periods of a Ranger game.

After all the scratching, I ended up with $357.
But it was ALL about being center ice at MSG with the crowd cheering me on!!!! Totally awesome!

(I did also skate on the ice once too).

I also was interviewed on NY1 during the Stanley Cup finals (I was a little drunk and made little sense - said Reetch & Lichter - but I think they liked that I was a girl in a jersey all psyched)

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

Hands down, the 2 World Series games I went to in 2001 at Yankee Stadium... I am fortunate to have been at them both

First of all, they were 2 of the greatest games I've EVER been at .. total 'combacks' from behind... AWESOME!!!

But really what made so much more meaningful than any other WS game was because it was so soon after 9/11, Everyone was still raw and emotional and really just happy to be alive and at a wonderful sporting event in the greatest city in the world NY!! Going into Yankee stadium was so very different for me than it had ever been before. The crowd was exceptionally pumped, and the usual things like the National Anthem and God Bless America brought tears to everyone's eyes and took on new meaning.

And I can honestly say (and trust me -- I'm not a George Bush fan at ALL ) that when the president came out onto the mound , stood there and threw out the first pitch, I got chills down my spine.

Even though the Yanks ultimately lost the WS, those games will always be the most special in my heart.

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

I think I have to go with the 86 Mets too. My dad is usually in a bad mood for one reason or another and I remember him screaming and yelling and just being sooooo happy! I was 9 yrs old and I was thinking that I loved the Mets b/c they made my Dad happy.

Re: Whats your best sports experience ever?

From a playing point of view it was hitting a game winning grand slam in softball when I was in high school.

From a fan point of view there are so many to choose from:
-Being at the game in 2001 against Seattle when Soriano hit the game winning home run. The emotions at that game were incredible. I've never heard Yankee stadium like that before.
-Last year the Yankees vs. Boston, Boone hitting that home run
-1996 when Leyritz hit that home run against the Braves to tie the game. I remember watching the game with my brother-he was in from California visiting. When Leyritz hit that home run we went nuts.
1994- Rangers winning the cup.

Mary Lou Retton winning the gold! And that's probably the last time I ever willingly watched a sport.
