Priest doing us a HUGE favor ...what should I give him (2-days i'm desperate pls. help)

My church was giving us the run around and didnt have anyone to marry us except for a new priest at my parish who unfortunately speaks very poor english. So at the last minute a friend of mines cousin who is a priest at the Cathedral college in queens said he would be glad to do it. Hi is coming t my parish from queens and at after has to run to Brooklyn to do a memorial service question is.........
we want to do something for him, what should we do ?? make a donation to his parish? He wont accept money himself right as a priest? Sholud i give him a gas card to put gas in his car???? Please help what would you do

We got our pastor a $50 gift certificate to dinner. We wanted to give him something, but not money. The donation is a good idea too.

I bought a mini-reprint of Thomas Kinkade's Chapel and put it in a frame for him.

I got it FAST from a prints store and it was under $50 total...

(my only advice, since my officiant is related to me, so I know the kinds of gifts he gets: try to stay away from religious relics because they probably already have tons...unless he was recently ordained)

Gift Certificate to a book store maybe. Priests do like to read a lot. Or....maybe you could go to the religious store in Roosevelt field and get him something nice in there!! I am still thinking!!

I think maybe a gift certificate to go out to eat or a beautiful plant or Godiva choclates, if he likes choclate.

thanks again, problem is i personally dont know him he is a cousin of a good friend, o i dont know any restaurants he would like (hes from queens) and i dont know what he enjoys im just wondering if a donation to his church or charity of choice would be enough

and what about the gas card since hes driving? Do priests pay for their own gas???

I think the parish he worships pays for his gas I think the Gift Certificate to the bookstore is a great idea

Ask your friend that is his cousin, if she has any ideas or ask her what kind of hobbies he likes or places he likes to go.

I have heard that etiquette wise, it is appropriate to make a donation to the priest's church in his name, or even a donation to his favorite charity.

We made a donation to our priest's parish (like you, our priest was not from the church where we got married), and he seemed to be extremely appreciative.

The Msgr marrying us is a cousin of FH...when FH's sister got married, she gave him a leather-bound date planner. It worked well for him b/c he's super, super busy.

What about an American Express gift check. It's not cash and he can use it anywhere he wants. I know my bank (Bethpage Federal Credit Union) sells them.

I also like the idea of a gift card- maybe for dinner out, or a Macy's card, or an AmEx one? I used to work in Catholic schools and I know the priests and nuns I know would probably like that- they can treat themselves with something that they normally wouldn't spend the money on. I would stay away from the religious oriented stuff- he probably already has tons.
