i have a friend from miller place, she likes the town.... i remember her saying when she moved there, to the kids in school it was important what town she was from

Mt Sinai and Miller Place have great school districts! Try to stay away from Centereach...it's not the greatest

I have been told Mt. Sinai is very nice.

I live in Centereach and I really like it! Our neighbors are nice, the area is quiet and its close to everything!

We had the same impression of Centereach of it not being too good, but we totally did our research on teh area, and although its not as nice as say Stony Brook, it seems to be the type of place where young working people are buying their first homes.

There are a few other LIW's who live out here too!

I love Mt. Sinai, FH and I are closing on a house there next week! It is a great school district....but the taxes are high

Miller Place is great also, the only thing that I heard about Miller Place was that the taxes are sky rocketing (and they are high now) because they are adding on to the schools.

Out of your choices those would be my favorites...but that is because I LOVE the north shore of LI.

I love Mt Sinai and Miller Place. I don't know anything about the taxes so the person who mentioned they may be going up may be correct. I don't like Centereach at all (there may be some areas that are nice like most towns have) and the sd isn't that nice. Don't like MI either and the SD isn't really good there either. MI is also surrounded by some pretty bad areas, but I think there are some areas that are O.K. I don't know a/t about E. Moriches. FI lives in MI and knows the area really well if you end up looking at specific areas/street addresses. Good luck!

I don't know about too many of the towns. Centereach has nice parts and not so nice(just like any neighborhood). We actually live in Selden which i really like and it right next to Centereach. You have to do what is good for you and what you can afford. Did you try looking in Selden?

out fo those towns..I would say Mt Sinai has the best school district then Miller Place, Centereach, and last East Moriches and Middle Island...

I grew up in Centereach, and now live in Setauket (all neighboring towns to those mentioned) I also teach around here so know the distrcicts well.

As for prpoerty taxes I think Miller Place is very high..

But all of them have beautiful homes and surroundings...

be careful in Middle Island especailly arounfd the section they call Gordon heights...

FH and I grew up in Centereach and it's one of the towns we're considering buying in. It is like many towns, it has nice parts and not-so-nice parts, but the not-so-nice parts have really been built up over the last few years and are quite nice.

We moved to centereach 2 years ago and LOVE our neighborhood. I am also on the selden/port jeff/ south setauket border part of centereach. My neighbors are great, the neighborhood is safe and quiet! There are so many new young couples buying in our neighborhood. Many people are doing work to their houses and they keep their property neat.

I grew up in smithtown and am a bit of a snob about where I live. At the time we bought our house there wasn't much out there and we saw a good opportunity and grabbed it. I was weary at first b/c of the town's rep, but once we moved in it became my home and I realized that it is such a great place to live and the rep. it has isn't true. Like all towns, as mentioned before, there are good parts and bad parts to every town- even smithtown. I have found here that my neighbors are friendlier and I actually know just about everyone that lives on my block- I can't say that about my old block. Don't get me wrong- I still LOVE smithtown and have many attachments to it- I'm just very happy that I found a great place to live and eventually raise a family.

PS- I work with a few girls that grew up right where I live now and they have said that it was a great place to grow up and love it here.
