Man of Honor/Best Lady...

I've noticed in some postings references to 'men of honor' and/or a 'best lady'...

What exactly does this mean?

Re: Man of Honor/Best Lady...

When the Fh has a Best Lady instead of a Best Man,
When FW has a man of honor instead of a maid/maitron of honor.
I think!

Re: Man of Honor/Best Lady...

I'm curious to know why a person would choose this option.

Re: Man of Honor/Best Lady...

I think it would depend on who your best friend is - sometimes people have best friends who are the opposite sex.

My DH's best friend is a woman and mine is a man. We were not going to leave them out of our Bridal Party so, we had a Best Lady and a Man of Honor.

Re: Man of Honor/Best Lady...

i have a man in my BP. he is a dear friend of mine who has been through so much with me. If he was a woman there is no doubt he would be in my BP- so why shouldn't he be because he is a man? FH only wants his close friends as GM so my friend (Jeff) is a bridesman.

I always thought that the bridal party consists of men and women and then they just divide out, women on one side, men on the other. I thought, for example, if my best friend was a man, dh, as a favor to me mostly but b/c he likes this guy too, would make him a groomsman. If the situation was reversed, vice versa. That is not the case?

I think that is the way some people do it. For us we had no problem with having a mixed BP. It is becoming more common. I wanted the people closest to me on my side and so did my DH.

This is how I am doing it...Hense the large bridal party. I however, I have no male friends and FH has no female friends. So it's mostly all family...My boy cousins are ushers/groomsmen...His female cousins are BM's...I guess it's all semantics.

Re: Man of Honor/Best Lady...

My fiance and I are doing a very non-traditional wedding party because we wanted our friends closest to us to be in the party and we wanted to be authentic. We don't think it's genuine to have even numbers and guys on his side and girls on mine because of tradition or for photos.

He is having two- three people on his side- all women (a Best Maid and one to two Groomswomen). I am having four women and a man. My sister who lives far away will be my Maid of Honor and my close friend who lives nearby will be my Matron of Honor, and I will have two Bridesmaids and one Bridesman. We will have two flower girls and a ring bearer.

These days weddings can be exactly what you want! I love the ceremony of tradition, but sometimes you have to buck it and make your own traditions! This is the moment where you should have the person/ people you want most at your side, whatever their gender!
