October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

The hall I love is booked for the day that we picked. Saturday nights are a bit expensive anyway... we would consider a sunday but it has to be a "monday off" weekend! Labor day is too early in the summer (I got an ivory dress and my heart is set on orange, yellow and red fall flowers) so we're leaning toward Columbus day weekend (like October 9). I personally, have never had that day off, but it's better than nothing. I hate to inconvenience guests like that, but I'm not sure what else to do except have a saturday afternoon - unfortunately that would end at 5pm - kind of early for my taste. In fact I used the fact that I was not off on Columbus day to try to get out of going to a wedding once. We'd do like a 2pm/3pm thing so that it would end around 8pm - still a little better... but in october??? I'm concerned about the weather, but then I realized... kids go out in costume Oct. 31! Can't be that cold! Any thoughts...

Re: October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

my cousin got married on october 6th and had her cocktail hour outside, it was beautiful. i think the chances are better in the beginning of the month than at the end.

i'm not counting on it being warm for mine on october 23, but if it is great.

it's hard to say...weather is so unpredictable.

Re: October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

We're planning an outdoor ceremony and indoor/outdoor CH for October 9. I'm hoping for sunny skies and a nice warm day, but there's no way to guarantee the weather, so I just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best. I wouldn't let the time of year stop me. I also wanted fall colors and opted not to do Labor Day in order to be closer to fall.

Re: October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

My mom's birthday is October 13th (sometimes Columbus weekend). When we were booking our date, she said that she remembers having her birthday parties outdoors many times growing up as a kid. So yes, an outdoor wedding is definately a possibility. And also, while the weather can be unpredictable in early October, it can also rain in August, or be so hot that the guests can't stand being outside. Basically, the weather is always a gamble at anytime of the year.

Re: October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

I got married 10/4, it was rainy and a little cold.

It wasn;t too bad, we were still able to take our outdoor pics, but my outdoor ceremony had to be moved inside.

I am getting married Oct. 3rd and hoping for a nice cool day, so my guests can enjoy the gardens and the outside CH.

Re: October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

Personally, I dont think anyone should get their heart set on an outdoor wedding unless they have a nice tent or some sort of overhead covering because the weather is always such a gamble any time of year! But to answer your question about weather during October, my wedding was on Oct 13th, which was Columbus Day weekend... it rained the morning of my wedding and was probably in the upper 50's that day.
We also did a Sunday afternoon, and had no problems with guests declining or leaving early (the party ended at 5:30).

Good luck with whatever you decide!!!

I'm doing Columbus weekend, SUnday, October 9, 2005. I am having the reception indoors, and the cocktail hour can be in/out whatever my guests would like. Just don't want rain.

I would love if it was an indian summer and like 80 degrees and sunny!

Last year's Columbus day weekend was really warm. I rememerb being out at a pumpkin & apple place. It was beautiful & packed!

Who knows this year! I 'm hoping for it to be nice enough for outdoor pictures & outdoor CH.

Re: October Brides doing outdoor weddings...

I was married OUTSIDE October 18th at a ceremony that didnt start until 7 PM!
It was cold, however it is what I wanted. I had always dreamed about an outdoor wedding and I am a big fan of the fall season.
When I sent out the "save the dates" to all of my guests I wrote a poem that included a line:
"be sure to bring a jacket or sweater,
the ceremony is outdoors depending on weather"
All of the guests knew that it was going to be outside unless it was raining. A lot of them came prepared. There were some who chose to stay indoors and watch the ceremony from the cocktail room.
The way I see it, the ceremony only lasts 20-30 minutes. If people are prepared and know ahead of time that they may be outside, then its not a problem.
I think for you, if you have it earlier in the day it will be warmer... The day I got married it was very warm out until the sun went down.... Hope this is helpful
