What is the anniversary dance?
All married couples dance, as the band or DJ counts down the years married - less than one, five years, ten years, etc. When it gets down to a few couples, the years go by single years until one couple is left - the couple married the longest. We gave our couple a bouquet of flowers and a bottle of wine, and the DJ asked them for advice for the newlyweds.
DJ Glenn did this? I really like this idea and the fact the he is my DJ too, so I know he knows what he is doing. This is such a great idea.

Awesome!!! I am really excited to hear that and I really like the Anniversary Dance idea. I am thinking I will order a small bouquet from my florist and get a bottle wine too. Thanks for posting the idea.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
I know a lot of people do this, but a bathroom basket really comes in handy. My sister just went to a wedding over the weekend and her dress broke. Thank goodness there were safety pins in the bathroom basket.
I've also seen the pics of the B and G as kids. It's so cute. I want to do pics of past married couples in our families.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
My friend got married the day after Christmas this past year. She's Greek orthodox and had a huge wedding (over 600 people!!!) They had set up about a dozen Christmas trees in the lobby, each having a portion of the alphabet on it--you had to find the ornament with your name on it and that was your placecard. they also had fireworks after church (it was dark out by then) and they handed out special copies of their hometown newspaper with their picture on it and an article about the wedding.
For my own wedding, I did a few little things. DH is British, so we tried to incorporate some of his culture and some of ours. We had three speeches - My dad, DH and the Best Man. DH said some wonderfully sweet things about me and it gave him an opportunity to thank my parents publicly, which they really appreciated.
We only had an MOH and a BM, so for the processional in church I had my two grandmothers walk in escorted by their grandsons (both grandfathers have passed away), and our parents before MOH.
We didn't have a sweetheart table, but had a small table for 6 - us, BM and his wife and MOH and her husband. I would've loved to have had just us and our parents (I think it's such a lovely idea to have dinner with your parents on your wedding night) but DH's parents are divorced and do not get along.
I had nosegays for mothers and grandmothers instead of corsages
I had the florist keep a rose out of my bouquet and presented it to my DH after the ceremony (it's a ballerina thing - most ballerinas pull a flower out of their bouquet during curtain calls and give it to their partner)
I saved a ton of money by not having centerpieces, we just did all different candles - votives, pillars, candleabras, candle sticks, tapers, etc. and red rose petals everywhere.
we hired a bus for our OOT guests and rode it back to the hotel with them at the end of the night. It was a blast!

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
Colleen/Deb: Sonic Stef (of LIW fame) is an amazing graphic designer who has done lots of stuff for LIW brides (I know of at least several) -- do a search under her and you will find her mentioned in a number of wedding reviews. She has two options: one is to make the design and send you a jpg with instructions on how to print out at a place like Kinko's and fold or she will do the printing, which is more $. Check out her work at www.sonicstefdesign.com and FM me for her email (I do not think I should post without her permission-although she is on these boards and you can FM her directly)--she goes under sonicstef. She does beautiful work and also is a wonderful wedding resource to talk to (gave me several ideas including using Elaine DeLuca and doing votive placecards). Let me know if I can help with anything else.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
My father is deceased andmy mom is walkingme down the aisle. I was thinking of setting up a pillar candle at the back of the church (right where the aisle starts) and as my mom and I begin to walk down the aisle I will stop and light the candle in his memory...so as if he is also there as I head down the aisle. I would also write the meaning in the programs (since most people wouldn't get it).
I haven't decided yet, I don't know if it is too cheesy, but I am considering it.
These are really great ideas guys!

One of my friends just told me this one: Her friend stuck a rubber chicken in her garter so when her husband went to get it he came out with the chicken! My FH wants to do that but I think the point was not just making everyone else laugh but also suprising hubby...
What is the anniversary dance?

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
My mother died when I was eight so I am leaving her seat (first seat on the left, first row as I walk up the aisle empty). I am getting a smaller breakaway bouquet made. I'll detach it from my main bouquet and place in on a vase that will be attached to the front of the back of the chair. My Dad is disabled so he won't be walking me down the aisle... I'll then turn and kiss him and my brother before I turn to meet my FH.
We are also getting married on July 4th. I was planning on filling a large decorative plant holder with sand and attaching all of my place cards to small American flags. If I decide to do favors they will be 6 sparklers attched to a matchbox with our name and date and tied together with a ribbon.

Not too different but if both sets of parents are still married, have their wedding pictures set up on the place cards table or somewhere else.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
I am thinking of something similar. My mom and dad have both passed away (my Aunt and Uncle are walking me down the aisle). I thought my junior bridesmaid could carry a replica of my mother's bo-k (it was very simple), and then place on "their" seats as she walks down the aisle. I'm not sure...

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
We didnt do any physical touches we did more gestures anda actions.
We did custom vows and included our daughter:
I annissa take you troy and amaya to be my family..etc.
Unique touch was we didnt do all lovey dovey songs..we had a party and in fact alot of guests said it was the best wedding they went to because of this. I may be the minority but I hate to go to a wedding and hear love songs all night.
Wildlife is always a hit..The ducks were walking around outside Coral house and thank heavens not pooping lol.
Our parents anniversary is the day b4 ours and after wecut the cake..they got to cut it too and feed each otehr.

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
Regarding using the matches and sparklers for the July 4th wedding: This is such a cute idea! I saw a wedding tip in a magazine that said if you do this, that you should attach a tag that says "A Perfect Match: Groom's Name and Bride's Name, July 4th, 2005"
(Fill in the info for your wedding, of course.)
I thought this was cute.

In reply to above post regarding the seating chart idea:
I am actually undecided about whether or not I am going to be taking my fiance's last name, but at the same time it was exciting for us both to see "The Future Mr. and Mrs..." on the seating chart at the wedding we went to. I do respect your words of caution; however, I still did really love seeing it (this was just my opinion.)
By the way girls - the ideas on this thread are AWESOME - keep them coming!!
i have to agree %100...whetehr you take his name or not you are still the Mr and mrs...... why else are you getting married
i would not get offended nor do i think any of my friends would be

Re: What are the best wedding details you have seen at a wedding?
A few ideas I have but I'm not sure FH will let me spend all this $$$ : 1) we're doing 2 favors--the first is a bottle of wine from Pugliese on the North Fork, where we got engaged; the second is a heart-shaped silver wine stopper 2) all boxes related to the wedding will be Tiffany's colored--the OOT guests are getting boxes instead of bags, so they'll be robin's egg blue with a white bow. The wedding cake, favor box for wine stopper, card box, and even the bathroom baskets will be the same. 3) I'd like to get those Chinese take-out boxes and fill them with inexpensive candy, then hand them out to guests as they leave for the night. Figured it's appropriate since FH and I pretty much get take-out all the time. It might be a little excessive with the 2 favors though.
