Teachers.....any activities for 3 year olds?!

Hey ladies....I'm going on an interview tomorrow for nursery school. I've been teaching 2nd grade and wanted to hear some ideas for lessons, briefly, just to get an idea. Also how do you handle discipline, separation issues?

Thanks ladies.

Re: Teachers.....any activities for 3 year olds?!

first of all, i commend you for wanting to work with 3 year olds...

As for activties, art ones that allow for creativity, manipiulation. try Perpetual Preschool

As for discipline, make sure you don't just tell them what not to do, but what to do. IE don't just say 'don't run in the classroom' instead say, 'We need to walk in the classroom.'

Try to speak positivly as much as possible (which i know is very difficult when the first thing that wants to come out is NO!)

Hope that helps :)

Re: Teachers.....any activities for 3 year olds?!

Keep activities short, allow for frequent particiaption by all the students, include many hands on activities. Find a way to bring in concepts, language, fine motor, gross motor, music, art, etc. Keep parents updated, newsletter or something. If a child is hesitant, you should respect that and work with the child to include them with the group for increasing amounts of time, maybe write a letter together or draw a picture about school to the child. Focus on rewarding positive behavior to help them develop intrinsic control.

I'm an SLP and have worked with EI/Preschool aged children. Here are a few of my favorite sites for activities:

Preschool Education
Preschool Printables
Early Childhood Themes
Thematic Units
Printables
Songs
Mother Goose Rebus
Activity Place
Printable Books
Hubbard's Cupboard
Book A Week/Rhyme A Week
